Meet Hildie Gifstad, 5’11″ (180 cm), 18-years-old, one of the newest models to join the Ford division, the high end fashion board headed up by Paul Rowland. Spend a few hours with Hildie and her command of American English might never betray her that she in fact hails from a small city outside Stavanger on Norway’s southwest coast. Hildie’s Norwegian accent all but disappeared after spending eight months between her second and third years of high school on a foreign exchange in California. She was later discovered on the street by her mother agent and shortly thereafter introduced to Ford where she was signed. Tall and thin Hildie will no doubt provide photographers, magazine editors, and designers just the sort of canvas considered requisite in high fashion and so it comes as no surprise that she will feature this July in some haute couture shows in Paris. Until then Hildie keeps a busy New York schedule testing and building up an already impressive portfolio with work. This week alone Hildie has already been featured on COACD. Outside of modeling Hildie enjoys the DIY side to fashion. When she visited the agency for this interview I was impressed by her custom All Stars and leather jacket both replete with metal studs, a bag of which she picked up for a couple bucks in the Fashion District and later used to embellish the aforementioned pieces. Hildie lives in Manhattan with fellow Ford model Dafne Cejas and counts her compatriots Helle and Polina as friends amongst others. Keep an eye on this page for more from Hildie Gifstad.
