Yeah, I have heard that Classic FM UK is very cheesy. Classical CDs could be the coolest thing you know. I have about 400 classical CDs (10% of them being Elgar).

Of course, "corny bits" is a bad phrase to describe classical music which has survived the test of time. "Corny bits" don't do that. Some day you may have more money and you can become a classical buff. Btw, can't you borrow CDs form a library? Can't you listen to classical FM?

I understand, money is limited. No wonder you are tired of classical music if you only listen to the "corny" bits. You are missing all the treasures. There aren't better composers than Elgar, he is the greatest. Anyway, back to Beethoven and Mozart like you said...

You need to find new things in classical music. Look beyond the standard repertuare. I suppose you have not heard of Clerambault, Bruhns, Taneyev, Weiss or Vanhal? There is so much to explore! Are you familiar with the outstanding chamber music by Faure? Have you heard all the 9 Bachianas Brasileiras by Villa-Lobos? Familiar with the cantatas/organ music by Buxtehude? How about the concertos by Hofmann? There is so much! I tend to cycle too. I also have a very eclectic taste. What's your favorite Elgar piece? Mine is his oratorio "The Apostles", Op. 49. The greatest music ever written!

Where are you drifting? Rock? Metal? Jazz? I didn't know one can drift away from classical music.
