Cosmo South Africa May 1989 - Cover and article "Knowing is Everything"

From our friend, Helenalover - here is one of his Cosmo South Africa covers (from October 1988), with the article from inside the magazine "The Six Million Dollar Czech". My scans...

Oh Xuxa, I am delighted to make your day happy. But I have to tell you - I have no secret. This ebay seller sold me a magazine with Paulina over a year ago and he put an Estee Lauder postcard in as an "extra" - so I contacted him to ask him if he had more Estee Lauder items. He told me yes, in his basement in a box. He told me he was going through his boxes very slowly and it might take weeks, months or even years before he found this one. I asked him to please remember me when he found the box. I e-mailed him once every 2-3 months to remind him I was very interested. As luck would have it, when he found the box, I had not e-mailed him in probably 4 months and he lost my e-mail address! (GRRRR.... <_< ) I saw the 1 brochure on ebay, so I bid on that one and contacted him. He told me he was hoping I'd see the auction but that he wanted to keep all but the duplicates he had, so we made a nice deal for his duplicates and he let me borrow five other brochures that he would not sell but that I had never seen before. So that is it - no secret, just happened to find the right person and was very careful to try to stay in touch with him. When I borrowed the brochures, I asked him to please remember me if he ever decides to sell his collection. Anyway - long story but there is no magic. I am so envious of kalaudia for the one she found recently! I guess if we are all just patient enough, we will find more as time goes by. And WELCOME TXPink - I agree, Christmas at Estee Lauder is a wonderful time! Everything is all decked out so beautifully and the colors they bring out for Christmas are terrific for wearing to all the festivities!

...and last for tonight - my favorite new acquisition. Estee Lauder Nights - this is a glossy 8x10 picture that was placed in a frame at the Estee Lauder cosmetics counters for Holiday colorstory 1989...

...And just when I think I have seen pretty much all the Estee Lauder Gift With Purchase brochures there always seem to be more...here are five that are new to me - a fellow collector was kind enough to let me borrow and scan them. WOW kalaudia! Great find - that made my Saturday!!! I had never seen this video before...and thanks for the stills from it also! Here are my pics/scans from that photo shoot and youtube video. The first is the actual ad that ran in magazines in 1990 and the second is from a short article about the colors for fall that year..."Neutrality". If I remember correctly, I believe the theme of that colorstory was inspired by the opening of the first Estee Lauder counter in Russia, which happened around the same time. Wouldn't it be so cool if Estee Lauder published a book of all the photos from all the photo shoots Paulina was on? I wonder just how many pictures and/or photo shoots ended up never being used. What a shame.

If I´m not wrong there had been a similar one to this one in the middle used for a cover of german perfume store magazine "Wir für Sie", but I don´t have it anymore on a photo. Hi lolitagirl - the kitty was Paulina's black siamese named Mephisto. Hi lolitagirl! Yes, you are right - Paulina is 100% real. Sure, she has some wrinkles and might not look as youthful and firm as she did in the 80's and 90's (who does?) but I think it's terrific that she's never had anything done and is proud of it. I think there are far too many women (and men) who go too far for "youthful" beauty. A chemical peel here and there and great skincare can help keep us glowing as we age gracefully...naturally. I also heard what she said about Heidi Montag, Kate Hudson and Madonna. She has always had a way of being brutally honest in her opinions.

Thanks for sharing tekka - unfortunately, this is not Paulina. I'm not sure who she is and I agree that she does look a bit like Paulina.
