Gwen Stefani's husband back in Orlando Gavin Rossdale takes down House of Blues Former Bush front man more impressive than a decade ago Gavin Rossdale, and his new band, perform at the House of Blues on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. I almost feel like I need a cigarette after that one. Gavin Rossdale, former front man of the 90s band Bush, put on a hot and steamy show at the House of Blues Tuesday night - flexing his undeniable hot looks with incredible vocals and a sensuous performance to announce his return to the Orlando music scene. And, what the crowd lacked in size, it made up for in enthusiasm, belting out ballads from Rossdale's new record, "Wanderlust," while also shrieking every time Rossdale brought out a hit from his Bush days. Rossdale, who has spent the better half of this decade known as Gwen Stefani's other half, brought a big-stage presence to the performance dancing from edge to edge, touching the hands of adoring fans, playing "Bullet Proof Skin" in the front row of the audience and also finishing off an inspiring guitar solo by playing it against a corner speaker while thrusting his entire body into it. Sex sells, especially for Rossdale. Case and point: During "This is Happiness," which is highlighted by a catchy chorus, Rossdale was writhing on the ground and also performed part of the song on his knees. He had plenty of the crowd jumping up to get a glimpse of his escapades, with multiple fans pushing themselves onto the shoulders of others. The music was only half the show and Rossdale's antics were the other. But this was like a planned pregnancy Rossdale was very aware of his songs and how he could tug at the emotions of new and old fans. The older hits were used sporadically, but in spots to raise the volume in the room. They used "Machinehead" in the opening three songs, giving the start of the 100-minute set a ton of energy. They also used "Everything Zen" just before the end of the pre-encore set, highlighted by Rossdale's affair with the unsuspecting speakers. But, it wasn't all thrust, it also was tender. Rossdale introduced a cover of Stevie Nick's "Landslide" half-way through the set, and the acoustic number found Rossdale sitting alone on a stool at the tip of the stage, backed up by a single guitarist. He was emotional, using multiple extended pauses to cover his face and collect his thoughts. He also highlighted the four-song encore with a solo of his mega-hit, "Glycerine," which debuted in 1996. The live version of the song is much more emotional than what you may hear on the radio, you feel the hurt that he had when he was writing it about an ex-girlfriend. And, much like his current hit "Love Remains the Same," Rossdale seems comfortable with love and its trials and tribulations. On Tuesday night, it just needed a parental advisory sticker.

Halle Berry & Gabriel Aubry: Family Feast Halle Berry grabs breakfast at Griddle Cafe with boyfriend Gabriel Aubry and 1-year-old daughter Nahla before stopping by Aahs for some quick shopping in Los Angeles on Saturday. The 42-year-old actress has shared how being pregnant with her daughter Nahla was a joy because it put a lot of media pressure off her figure. At the Palm Springs International Film Festival last year she said, “It was the first red carpet that I’ve really walked down where I didn’t have to think about holding in my stomach. It’s the first time I’ve been to an awards show where they served a meal and I actually ate it. I was eating off everybody else’s plate and that felt very liberating and good.” May 30, 2009 http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/05/30/ha...y-family-feast/

Rossdale strays from 'Angry Guy' days The equation always comes down to predator and prey. “Even when you’re going out to the market, early in the morning with your family, you really don’t want to go to the market,” says photogenic U.K. rocker Gavin Rossdale, who — along with wife Gwen Stefani and their sons Kingston and Zuma — has become a prime target for paparazzi in his new home: Hollywood. “Because with a herd of photographers following you, it’ll turn into a big scene like some bad reality show. It can be, umm, a bit invasive,” he says. Overly protective of his clan, the singer — who plays San Francisco on Tuesday — admits he used to be more combative with photographers. “But it turns into the same kind of picture, every time — ‘Angry Guy,’” he says. “So what are you going to do? I’m not going to let it get to me. And the guys that follow us regularly are actually pretty good guys — it’s just that that’s how they make their living. And besides, with all of the awful things happening in the world right now, the idea of celebrities complaining about the paparazzi just seems a little churlish.” This same thoughtful, zenlike outlook has permeated Rossdale’s work since “Sixteen Stone,” his 1994 debut with his old outfit Bush. It continued through his recent group Institute and then to “Wanderlust,” his literate new solo set for Interscope. He rationalizes fame with “Another Night In the Hills,” decries war on “If You’re Not With Us, You’re Against Us” and treasures his family in “Frontline.” Ironically, a ballad touching on troubles from his seven-year marriage, “Love Remains the Same,” has become a Top 40 smash for the otherwise private artist. “The world is exciting, but also selfish and terrifying,” is Rossdale’s theory. “So there’s a real nice balance, and we just wade through it. But having children certainly removes you from being the most important person in your life, especially if you have sons. There’s something quite anthropological about the idea of them gaining strength through their lives and achievements as you gradually lose yours. But hey — that’s how it goes. Being a father is an interesting path." So is being an actor. Rossdale, 41, has had fun with his suave image in films such as “Constantine,” where he portrayed the devilish villain Balthazar, who shatters into charred shards at the end. “It’s always quite curious to see yourself turn into rubble,” he laughs. Yet flying solo — like the paparazzi — has required some adjustment, Rossdale says. “I’m still cringing when I hear my name on the radio. But I think I’ll get used to it.”

Spotlight to Nightlight: Party Time For Hollywood's littlest celebrities, the cost of a birthday party can easily reach $25,000 or more and parents everywhere are trying to keep up. Suri Cruise's 2nd birthday bash reportedly cost $100,000 thanks to a $45,000 catering bill and a $5,000 cake. Million dollar entertainers like Aerosmith are headlining Bat Mitzvahs and party guests are going home with $1,000 goodie bags! On this episode of "Spotlight to Nightlight," host Ali Landry talks to the Party Goddess, Marley Majcher, about blowout kiddie soirees, and to Dayna Devon, co-host of "Extra," about children's birthday party madness. Ali's Take: I am in the middle of trying to plan a party for a soon-to-be 2-year-old. I completely blame myself for the stress that I am feeling. At first, I thought, let's just do something simple ... a cake, a few friends, maybe a ride on a pony (one of my daughter Estela's new obsessions). After all, my second birthday party consisted of my aunts, uncles, and cousins sitting on the porch with a cake, a few presents, and Pin the Tail on the Donkey. I don't really remember it, but everyone in the pictures seemed to be having a pretty good time without all the bells and whistles that are such a big part of today's celebrations. So now I ask myself, if you don't need much to have a good time, why do I feel so pressured? I have come to the conclusion that because this is my first child, I want to give her the best party I can and make EVERYTHING about the day special. Because I am in the entertainment business, I have access to a lot of wonderful resources and companies that have offered to help make Estela's birthday a special one. When you add that to the mix, it's REALLY hard to stick to my original idea of keeping it simple. I am now trying to find that happy balance. Everyone is paring down their spending these days, but it's hard to cut back when it's for our kids. There are so many great ideas out there and if you're willing to put in the effort, you can still pull off an amazing shindig without breaking the bank. You just need time, creativity, and resources. One of the things I am doing now (on Dayna's recommendation) is keeping a file of anything I see in a magazine or elsewhere that I think would be great for a party. That way, when it's time to plan, you already have a whole stack of ideas to look at and budget for. Dayna also recommended checking out eBay and the 99 Cent Store for supplies. Looking for a great cake and not into baking? Costco is famous for its delicious (and inexpensive) birthday cakes. Want to send the kids home with a gift but don't have any companies clamoring to sponsor your party? Think of a craft that can be both a fun party activity and also a great take-home gift, like stringing up some beaded jewelry for girls or decorating hard hats for boys. Just try not to let it stress you out. (Easier said than done!) I can see why parents everywhere are falling into the party madness trap! There's even a national organization, Birthdays Without Pressure, devoted to helping parents and kids find alternatives to the out-of-control parties that are now the norm. I know that Estela is only 2 and doesn't NEED a blowout bash, but there is nothing I want more than to see a huge smile on her face on her birthday. At the end of the day, what really matters is that we surround our daughter with the people who love her and create joyous memories that will last our family a lifetime. If those joyous memories include a few extra blessings that come along with my husband and I being in this business, then I am not going to feel guilty or stressed about it ... I sound stressed, don't I? Spotlight to Nightlight: Mompreneurs Having children not only instills maternal instincts, but business instincts as well. The skills needed to run a family also apply to the business world, including scheduling, budgeting, and management. Many moms are taking those skills and launching new businesses. This is especially true in Hollywood, where no one is just an actress or just a singer. Aside from the typical clothing, jewelry, and perfume lines, there are some creative ventures headed by entrepreneurial moms -- or mompreneurs -- like bedding collections, kid's furniture, and even baby supply vending machines. One of the most sucessful mompreneurs is Kathy Ireland. In 1993, the supermodel launched a sock line for Kmart. Over the years, her line has grown to include clothing, jewelry, furniture and books, with annual sales topping $1.5 billion. While former "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" star Melissa Joan Hart doesnt have mogul aspirations, she does want to be a successful mompreneur. On this episode of "Spotlight to Nightlight," host Ali Landry talks to Melissa about juggling family, a successful entertainment career, and her new sweets shop, SweetHarts. Ali's Take: After having a child, you become more empowered, more creative, and more determined to find ways to provide for your family. You're suddenly running a family, so running a business seems like a natural progression. While trying to navigate your way through the mommyworld, you realize there are products missing from the marketplace that would make moms' lives much easier. You become inspired to fill that void yourself. I have all these ideas running through my head, but have yet to figure out how to maintain the balance between being a mom and taking care of my family, working to help support my family, and branching out in a new business venture. I am amazed by all of the women who can. Like my mother! She is one of the most amazing and inspiring women I know, and a good example of someone who lives a balanced life. She worked hard and had her own business. She also has a successful, loving marriage to my father, raised three happy children, and still cares for her mother and uncle, who are both now in their 90s. To me, she is Superwoman. If I could be half the person she is, I would be extremely proud. But as I try to emulate my mother, everyday is still a challenge. You want to be a great mom, wife, friend and daughter and at the end of the day you still feel that need to bring home a little bacon. In our interview, Melissa talked about the value of finding a business venture you can involve your family in. That way, you're not always required to be away from them. Melissa and many other mompreneurs out there have got it right. Motherhood brings so much inspiration -- combine that with a good business plan and a supportive family, and you just might be the next successful mompreneur whose must-have product I stock up on. Speaking of, Melissas new sweets shop SweetHarts is opening in Sherman Oaks, California on May 30. A throwback to the old ice cream and candy shops we used to race to as kids, SweetHarts is a sugary wonderland of self-serve frozen yogurt, gelato, baked goodies, and candy (all your new and nostalgic favorites) -- plus some sugar-free treats, too! http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/goddess/spotlig...mompreneurs/220

1986 June Just a Girl Artsy high school senior Stefani dreams of being a homemaker like her mother, but when older brother Eric forms a band, No Doubt, with fellow Dairy Queen workers, she agrees to join as second vocalist. In December 1987, the band's lead singer, John Spence, takes his own life at age 18. At her brother's urging, Stefani takes over lead vocals. "All I wanted to ever do was get married and have babies, have a house," she tells the Washington Post a decade later. "So it's weird that I'm in a rock group."

On the Road With Gavin & Kingston Rossdale From art museums to dingy dressing rooms, movie marathons on the bus to summer music festivals in front of thousands, Gavin and Kingston Rossdale have seen it all — together. “It’s been a really bonding experience,” Gavin tells PEOPLE of taking his toddler son on the first leg of his U.S. tour. “He likes hanging out. He’s so natural, so easy.” Gavin, who is on the road until June 7th in support of his album Wanderlust, has found a happy balance between his home and work lives. “I love playing shows. It makes for a dynamic life,” says the British rocker, 43. “If Bob Marley could have a wicked home life and 14 children and then go out and play, why can’t I?” “For anyone who has kids, you bring them along in your life and they adapt to where you’re at,” adds Gavin. “You keep them fed and rested and pay lots of attention to them and they’re fine.” Kingston’s nanny Mia Silbaugh snapped this photo of the pair watching a movie on the bus on April 14th in Seattle. “Sometimes he says, ‘Don’t sing tonight, Daddy, just hang out,’” laughs Gavin. Life on Tour In between interviews and radio station visits during the day, Gavin and Kingston, 3, hit kid-friendly spots along their tour route, like the Seattle Aquarium or the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor, Maine. “And sometimes we’ll go to museums of modern art so he can see a big splash of color on the walls,” says the former Bush frontman. They also make up new games together. “I found a way to kill some time in New York by asking him to look out the window and tell me every time he saw a yellow taxi,” says Dad with a chuckle. “He was so into it. We had a really good time.” The guys also bond — and clash — over movie time on the bus. “He likes to watch the same thing over and over. For King, basically it’s The Cat in the Hat, Over the Hedge and Cars,” says Gavin. “We went through The Polar Express. I could have been in that film, I know it by heart!” Adds the doting dad: “I’ve got loads of surf videos. Now he uses the phrase ‘that’s boring.’ He’ll turn it off — he knows how to operate the DVD player.” After gigs, Gavin unwinds with books including D.M. Thomas’ The Bleak Hotel, Ted Hughes poetry (”In case I have a short attention span”), and works by Charles Bukowski and Christopher Hitchens. A Family Affair Kingston hit the road with his dad in April and early May before joining mom Gwen Stefani, 39, and baby brother Zuma, 9 months, on No Doubt’s summer tour a few weeks ago. Despite their seemingly unconventional lifestyle, touring suits the Stefani-Rossdale family quite well. “We keep Kingston on West Coast time when we’re on the East Coast. He normally goes to bed at 8. It’s all about his comfort and everything else is second,” says Gavin, adding that his son, who wears protective headphones, likes to rock out on the drums during sound checks and often imitates Dad on air guitar as he watches a performance from the back of a venue. As for trading touring tips and tricks with his wife? “We’re both too exhausted to discuss it,” says Gavin with a laugh. “We’re both commandos. You just find a way like every other parent. There’s nothing unique about that.” Gavin says his oldest son is lucky because he can accompany his parents on the job. “He sees that it’s a lot of effort and a lot of work too. My own father was working all the time, from 8 in the morning till 8 in the night, five, six days a week,” he says. “Kingston sees that if you want to get something done, you have to work.” Whether Kingston will follow in his parents’ famous footsteps remains to be seen. “We’d support anything he wants to do. It’s just such a wide world. Maybe he’ll want to be an architect and build buildings. That,” says Gavin, “would be cool.” The photos were snapped by Kingston’s nanny. Kingston’s nanny Mia Silbaugh snapped this photo of the pair watching a movie on the bus on April 14th in Seattle. “Sometimes he says, ‘Don’t sing tonight, Daddy, just hang out,’” laughs Gavin. Backstage in Orono, Maine on April 30th. Catch Gavin on his remaining U.S. tour dates: May 28, Voodoo Lounge, N. Kansas City, Mo. May 29, Whiskey Roadhouse at Horseshoe Casino, Council Bluffs, Iowa May 31, Gothic Theatre, Denver June 2, The Filmore, San Francisco June 4, House of Blues, San Diego June 5, Hard Rock, Las Vegas June 6, El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles June 7, House of Blues, Anaheim, Calif.
