  15. Dolores Trull, the model who broke all the clichés She dazzled on the world's top runways and today shines with her own jewelry brand. In her atelier, she spoke with Infobae about the demands regarding weight in the world of fashion and the importance of family support during a model's ephemeral career. By Maia Chacra 08 Oct, 2016 08:12 p.m. AR After the runways, she found a new passion: crafting jewelry (Photo: Nicolás Stulberg) Dolores Trull never imagined her life would be linked to fashion until she was discovered by her neighbor Tini de Bucourt, one of the most important models in the history of Argentine fashion. She was 18 years old at the time, studying graphic design, and envisioning a career in the creative world. However, life's twists and turns led her to the runways of Colombia and the world, but when she decided to step down for good, she returned to her first great love: design, though she focused on inventiveness in the world of jewelry. New York, Milan, Paris, and Berlin were some of the most important runways that appreciated her elegance, the flexibility of her legs, and her penetrating gaze. Major brands like Chanel, Fendi, Versace, Gianfranco Ferré, Ana Molinari, and J. L. Scherrer, among other renowned houses and designers, sought her out for their shows, and she always dazzled. In Argentina, her career was also outstanding. She graced the covers of the best fashion magazines, walked the most exclusive runways, and worked on campaigns with renowned photographers. Her poise, that gaze that seemed to melt the lens, made her a favorite of the most important designers for years. -Nowadays, models begin their careers in their teens, but that wasn't your case. – Yes, I started late (18 years old), because now they start at 14 or 15. -What were the weight requirements like back then? -I was very thin and tall, that's what they always asked for. Later things got a bit distorted; there were different jobs. For fashion shows, you had to be tall and thin; for commercials, you had to be pretty. I wasn't in commercials, clearly. There were different areas, but yes, they required you to be thin. So there was a size, a model size, and designers made that size and didn't adjust it for the models. It had to fit. We were all pretty similar in body type, our backs, our waists. Dedication, love, and talent are what it takes to create each piece. (Photo: Nicolás Stulberg) -Did you know anyone who had a hard time because of their weight? -From my group, (Lorena) Ceriscioli, (Andrea) Bursten, (Solange) Cubillo, and (Dolores) Barreiro were all very thin and similar in build; it didn't happen to me with them. Sometimes you'd go out and people would ask you to be a little thinner. It's just a phase; generally, they always prefer thin women. Then there's that in the fashion world, the concept of beauty broadens, becoming more inclusive, accepting curvier and plus-size women. In general, it's always the same body stereotype; in the end, they always choose the same ones, no matter how controversial it is. For the past 20 years, there's always controversy surrounding this topic, a month or two of uproar, but they always end up choosing the same ones. Now I'm one of the shortest! I'm 1.77 meters tall, and now the average is 1.80 meters, and they're all thin. -What can you say to mothers who are worried about their daughters' modeling careers? -You have to be on top of things, you have to be concerned, the girls are very young. At 19, the body responds easily to everything, to eating little, to training, and that's when they get a little overwhelmed, and you have to be as healthy as possible. The mothers have to be on top of things, they have to be physically healthy. The work is very insecure, the whole issue of physical appearance, diet, ego, and emotions. In general, these aren't girls who have it all figured out; they're gorgeous, and they're the most insecure of all because it's a job that can bring you down. There's always someone better, and you compare yourself…and you're young, you're very young. Splendid, radiant, just like in her runway days (Photo: Courtesy of Harper's Bazaar) -Would you like your daughter to be a model? "I don't know. No, maybe if she does some work, she'll take it as a fun thing. If she goes abroad, it's a real job, a chore, and it's all day long. Here you can do it and study because there isn't as much of a market." -Do you miss your profession? -Not at all! The only thing I miss is having coffee with the girls, the pre-show, the backstage, chatting for hours. We were all really close friends, it was the most fun thing in the world, the trips, it's all very much about friendship." "The truth is, I stopped working and I never looked at a magazine again. I never really enjoyed that part of it, it seemed very limiting. At first I liked it, it was easy, it was fun, it's the most fun job in the world! You travel, everything is easy, but then when I started to become a little more aware of all that, I got bored. It seems limiting to me, it all bores me." At one point I wanted to make clothes, but it seemed so limiting—the sizes, the colors, the seasons, everything was the same, I hate it! I get so bored. With jewelry, I found a niche where there are no seasons. A woman comes in with a large hand, and I make her a custom ring. I love women of all sizes, women of all sizes, I love women… Dolores creates unique pieces in her atelier ((Photo: Nicolás Stulberg) After leaving the catwalk at 24, the mother of Félix and Cala proved the common misconception that models aren't intelligent to be nothing more than a fallacy: she studied advertising, ventured into production and photography, and exhibited her work at MALBA. She had a brief stint in television, hosting the show FTVmag for three years on the now-defunct Fashion TV channel, but rediscovered her passion for art and design during her first pregnancy, when she began a costume jewelry course with Carla Bronzini and later studied metalwork with María Medici. From there, she launched a new career with her own brand: Not – Ordinary Jewelry. -How did the idea for jewelry design come about? -I don't wear any jewelry; it came about out of boredom. When I finished my job, I felt a kind of desperation. I had several hobbies, like photography, until I stumbled upon jewelry and loved it. I never said, 'I'm going to dedicate myself to this,' it was much simpler than that; I just liked it. I started with three rings, and now I make everything. It's therapeutic for me. This shop is my space; people come, try things on, I make custom pieces, and I have a great relationship with my clients. -What's your specialty? -I'm really into rings; I find it hard to make things I don't wear. I make mostly rings and bracelets. I started by putting all rings in the shop, and then, yes, I gradually added pieces that other people liked and that I liked. I always make something I like; I don't copy anything, I have no idea what's out there. I enjoy that. The pieces are made to measure (Photo: Nicolás Stulberg) Source https://www.infobae.com/tendencias/lifestyle/2016/10/08/dolores-trull-la-modelo-que-rompio-todos-los-cliches/
