Guti and Saviola

"We're on the right path. We're in sync but still have to improve physically"

Guti and Saviola were two of the goal-scorers on Friday night. Both agree that the hosts' two goals hurt the Madridistas, but that the team responded perfectly in the second half.

Saviola:

"I am very happy and I hope it's the first of many goals with this shirt. We played a very good second half. We were in sync and it's logical that we're not in peak physical form, but we're on the right path."

"You have to remember that they have already played many matches in their League and we're just getting started. We did know that we just had to go out there and play football. The team will be in better physical form as days and matches go by. Today you got to see the start of some important things, but we all have to be at 100% and in perfect health for when the important matches begin. As for now, we have to believe in our football and the team. We cannot get over-confident because it's not easy to defeat every team, but we are good."

Guti:

"The two goals in the first 15 minutes knocked the team out of whack a little. We're a team that hasn't been together for very long and we are only about 10 days into our preseason. We were up against a team that has already played 19 League matches and we knew the opening minutes would be difficult. They were very strong and faster than us at the start, but we were later able to control the match, and that's what counts. We made a radical change in the second half."

"I play in position I am comfortable playing in and where I like to play. Having the confidence of the coach makes everything so much easier, and it makes us all happy when things turn out well. We're on the right track."

"Sunday's match against PSV will be a challenge for us and being in the best form possible is all I am hoping for. We have to take each step at a time. It is very important that we be in the best conditions possible to start the League against an always-tough Atleti. That will be the beginning of a new stage. It's important to stay confident because, although we didn't deserve to lose 3-0 in Hanover, we did. A victory such as this one makes us all a little calmer."

Spurs to pounce for Real Madrid ace Guti

Tottenham are moving for Real Madrid's £5 million-rated midfielder Guti.

The Mirror says Madrid president Ramon Calderon is desperate to sign Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and that would allow Guti to leave the club.

Tottenham have gone for Guti twice before and Real have asked them whether they would be keen on the 30-year-old as part of a transfer merry-go-round.

Spurs boss Martin Jol wants to sign a left-sided midfielder and Levy may now get the chance to resurrect his interest in Guti.
