Hello Everyone! I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I translated the article about Kasia from post #371. Sorry for my English.

Kasia Struss (actually Strusińska), 19 years old, from Ciechanow. 13th on models.com ranking (*update*now she’s 14th), according to Vogue the best dressed woman of September 2008. 67 shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris.

In the spring 2007, when arrived the information that Kasia was gonna appear in the Dolce & Gabbana campaign, her parents wanted only to know whether she would spend Easter with the family. Her parents (teacher and insurance agent, whole life in Ciechanow) both were skeptical towards the world of fashion – so was Kasia. She sent some photos, did some castings, she was in one agency – and that’s all.

During one of the castings she met Malgorzata Leitner, economics student. Kasia was reliable, hard-working, scrupulous, Malgorzata, unsuccessful model, was aware of problems that might happen to wannabe models. They decided that Malgorzata would be the Kasia’s agent. They bought tickets to Paris; it was May 2006, the day was rainy, cold and gloomy. With the map of Paris and list of model agencies from the Internet, both full of youthful enthusiasm, the girls went from one agency to another.

In six agencies they didn’t even pass through reception, some arrogant assistants of the assistants took back Kasia’s portfolio through the door. In the seventh and eighth agency they were somehow interested. The same day girls came back to Warsaw, because the day after Kasia had school classes (BTW in her public high school no one knew about her career even when she started to be so successful). They spent the night after the trip to Paris in Malgorzata’s home. In the morning Malgorzata found out that Kasia cleaned up the apartment. Malgorzata says that in that case Kasia didn’t change at all – she’s extremely polite and decent. Despite the tons of work she always treats her guests in “Polish way” – she prepares a breakfast, makes a bed.

Kasia still thinks that the intuition of Malgorzata the most important for her career. Those two interested Paris agencies didn’t had any solid propositions. Malgorzata decided Kasia had to go to Greece to get some experience in fashion then the would go to London. That was the plan. Because of the minimal budget, for save some money they slept in one bed.

The polish agency Avant Management, owned by Malgorzata, barely existed at that time, but Malgorzata contacted her old friends from the fashion industry and she managed to find someone interested – from London agency Storm they wanted to see Kasia’s book. They liked photos taken in Greece and hired Kasia. After that Kasia started to walk the shows during fashion weeks – her first were Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu, big brands. It was then when Malgorzata decided to change Kasia’s last name to Struss (similar to Moss). Before the fashion weeks started they went to Greece once more for some interesting shootings. Malgorzata trusted in her intuition again, however people from the industry thought that Kasia should have stay in London and wait there for fashion week.

Photos from Greece turned to be fantastic – girls started to say that those shots had been done in New York, because it sounds more prestigious for the people in the industry . Suddenly everybody wanted that Struss from the Greek photos: Dolce & Gabbana, Pringle of Scotland and 3 editions of Vogue. Soon on the market appeared 4 other European girls with the last names finished with –oss or –uss.

They flew to New York with tickets bought by big agency. In the beginning Malgorzata accompanied Kasia, because she wanted to support her and because Kasia barely spoke English.

Success in details: first of all lots of hard work. During the fashion weeks models work 20 hours a day. Makeup, hair, fittings, rehearsals. They sleep in planes. During the rest of the year they have to be always ready with baggage packed because it happens that phone calls – flight to Paris in 1,5 hour. They don’t make plans. (Kasia and Anja Rubik live in the same neighborhood, but they don’t see each other, ‘cause they don’t have time). Kasia moved from models apartment and rented something more peaceful with her friend, Belgian (Hanne Gaby Odiele).

Incomes – if the model wants the campaign she gains only 5000 euros. But if the brand wants the girl for their campaign model from the level of Anja Rubik can get 100-200 thousands euros. For one show of the big designer model can get 4-10 thousands of euros.

Kasia comes to Poland four times per year, which is hard because she’s far away from her family. Kasia’s mum has never traveled on a plane, she can’t fight her fear, so she doesn’t visit her daughter in Manhattan.

Kasia, finally, signed an official contract with Malgorzata, earlier it wasn’t necessary.
