Casillas press conference

"We have to take care of business now"

Iker Casillas offered the traditional player press conference 24 hours prior to Wednesday's crucial Champions League clash against Werder Bremen.

A draw clinches a berth in the next round, but a defeat will seriously complicate things.

Not having lost any matches and earning good results have brought us within arm's reach of qualifying. Bremen have a golden opportunity to make it through too. They would really put pressure on the group with a victory and we would depend on the rest of the final results. We've come here with every intention of winning, but one point from a draw will be very welcome as well.

What concerns you most about Werder Bremen?

Their attack is in great form right now. They are strong at set pieces, which tend to be their forte. We really have to do a good job defending in that aspect. We also have to keep in mind that Spanish teams have had a tough time winning here in recent years due to the vociferous fans.

Is this the most important match of the season so far?

Every match is important. This one is the most important now because it's our most immediate match and because winning would mean not having to worry about it until February despite still having to host Lazio. We could focus on the League and the Cup. We have to take care of business now to not have to rely on the final matchday.

How badly will Bremen miss Diego's presence?

He's a key loss, but Bremen know they have a great chance to stay alive in the Champions League. Qualifying for the next stage is all the motivation they need.

Iker Casillas to play his 400th match as a Real Madrid goalkeeper tonight against Racing

Iker Casillas will play his 400th official match for Real Madrid tonight when the Whites host Racing Santander at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he is still second on the all-time appearances list for a goalkeeper after Paco Buyo.

Iker Casillas will celebrate his 400th official match as a Madridista tonight when Real Madrid host Racing Santander at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Casillas is already Real Madrid's goalkeeper with the second-most appearances, and he is quickly closing in on Paco Buyo's mark of 454.

Iker joined Real Madrid at the age of nine. He was playing in Third Division football by the 1998/99 season, during which he received his first-ever call up from the First Team. By the following year he was an unquestionable member of the squad.

In 1999/00, Casillas made his first starting eleven in Matchday 3 against Athletic Bilbao, and he hasn't been replaced since the 2-2 draw.

He is currently the goalkeeper who has conceded the third fewest goals (13) in League play behind Racing's T. Martínez (9) and Barcelona's Víctor Valdés (10).

Iker made his Spanish national team debut in June 2000 against Sweden. He has been called up 92 different times by the Reds and has 73 caps under his belt, making him the Spanish goalkeeper with the second-most appearances after Zubizarreta (126).

Throughout his 400 matches in white, Iker has won three Leagues, two Spanish Super Cups, two European Cups, one European Super Cup, one InterContinental Cup, one Under-20 World Cup, one Under-16 World Cup, and one Bravo Trophy.
