Mourinho rejoins race for unsettled £12 million Liverpool ace

Liverpool - Glen Johnson could become Sergio Ramos' replacement

Real Madrid have rejoined Juventus and Tottenham in the race to sign Liverpool right back Glen Johnson after Jose Mourinho fell out with Sergio Ramos, according to Marca.

The Spanish daily have revealed the Madrid pair fell out in the aftermath of their 5-0 humiliation against Barcelona, when Mourinho wanted to be the only one to speak to the press.

However, his vice-captain felt it necessary to apologise for a late red card after a tackle on Lionel Messi, angering his manager who wanted his players to keep quite for 48 hours.

With ‘the Special One’ keen to continue his Real revolution, Johnson is now back on his radar despite a poor start to the season with Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson criticised the former West Ham man after a string of less than impressive performances and Johnson is now unsettled at Anfield.

With rumours of Madrid’s interest earlier on this year surfacing, he then took the decision to start learning to speak Spanish, prompting even more speculation.

And with news that Rod Fanni’s proposed move to Marseille has fallen through, Liverpool are prepared to cash in on their defender and bring the Frenchman to Anfield in a cut price deal.

Sergio Ramos, Kaka and Gago were the new faces during training this morning. The three players worked out on the pitch with their team-mates, taking a positive step towards recovery. Jose Mourinho also had 18 other men available to him in the session, as well as youth teamers Juanfran, Pacheco and Morata. Dudek, Higuain, Xabi Alonso (suspended for the match due to five bookings) and Canales stayed indoors.

Ball work took centre stage after fitness trainer Rui Faria finished supervising a series of stretching and strengthening exercises. The squad divided into two groups to play a game in which it was only allowed to pass the ball with either hands or head.

Mou On Sergio’s return to the starting line-up: Sergio has done well, with the medical staff and the recuperators. They knew that we were in a complicated situation with all the absences and that it was important to recover some of those who were injured. He’s available. He wants to play and he’s going to play. I’m happy with him because he did everything possible to be here.

Sergio Ramos: "No one on this team is an unquestionable starter; we all have to work hard to make the lineup"

Realmadrid.com / Translation by Michael J. O'Donnell

Team captains Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos analysed the 1-0 victory over Sevilla for the media.

Iker Casillas

"The match was difficult from the start. Sevilla complicated things for us by positioning themselves well on the pitch. It's been a constant to-and-fro. Sevilla have always been an uncomfortable opponent at the Bernabeu. We relied on epic character and Di Maria was cheeky enough to take three very important points in our pursuit of Barcelona."

"Referee Clos Gomez gave an unfortunate performance, but he's done a very good job in the past. He didn't allow us to discuss decisions with him tonight and I think discussions are essential on a football pitch."

"We are only two points behind Barcelona. It's just one game. We have to keep on winning to put pressure on them. We are on the right path and we'll see what happens next year. We are now concentrating on our Copa del Rey match, in which we hope to do well in order to be more relaxed in our return leg in Valencia."

Sergio Ramos

"These three points are glorious given the circumstances. I felt fine during the match. My knee responded well to training for a couple of days. It's natural to feel a bit tired after a game, but I'm very happy nonetheless."

"I've been playing elite football for many years and competition within the squad is always positive. I have to agree with the coach when it comes to that. No one is an unquestionable starter. I work hard every day with the excitement of learning something new. I felt well again on the pitch tonight and that's the path I must follow."
