Terminator Genisys

Terminator: Genisys is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Alan Taylor and written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. It is the fifth installment in the Terminator series. Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as the titular character, along with newcomers Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Matt Smith, Lee Byung-hun, Dayo Okeniyi, Courtney B. Vance, Sandrine Holt, and J. K. Simmons. The film is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on July 1, 2015.

Premise:
The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John's fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.
On the verge of winning the war against Skynet, Connor sends his trusted lieutenant Kyle Reese back through time to save his mother's life and ensure his own existence. But what he finds on the other side is like nothing he ever expected. After being orphaned at age 9 by a Terminator, Sarah Connor has since been brought up by another Terminator, played by Schwarzenegger, programmed to protect her. This Terminator has then trained her to face her destiny, which she adamantly tries to reject.

I'm apathetic about the premise but all things considered, they've delivered a decent trailer. Although, at the risk of being burned alive by vengeful dragons, I really don't rate Emilia Clarke as an actress. :ninja:

In the next movie, Arnold goes back in time to stop himself from having that affair with his maid. Instead, he ends up having the affair with himself. :pinch:

I agree about Emilia. For once Jai Courtney may not be the weakest link in a movie.

But I still don't agree with this movie at all and this trailer shows it's just trying to re-do Terminator 1 and 2 again. Only this time Sarah Connor was raised by Arnold's Terminator whom she calls "Pa". T1 and T2 are amazing, T2 was my favourite childhood movie. I'll have to wait and see another trailer.

Presumably, once Reese is sent back to a point predating his introduction in T1, the timeline shifts and everything is new. Basically a JJ Abrams Star Trek vibe, only with less lens flare.

Given that the studios look to be working their way through franchises from the late eighties and early nineties, you wonder how long it'll be before they consider giving the same treatment to something like Harry Potter or Twilight.

From what I've heard there is possibly going to be a lot of time jumping. Future, past, future.. Someone had released all the details a while ago and it gave me a headache trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

I would love to see what happens if a studio announced it was going to reboot Harry Potter.

At this rate, explaining everything is going to eat up about two thirds of the film's running time... :D

So, Sarah is essentially now in John's role, which means John doesn't exist any more, and she's younger and there's an older Terminator who watches over her, and it's the original one from the first movie that hunted her when she was an adult, and there's another Terminator on a motorbike and...

I am intrigued by this movie but it's hard to have faith. Terminator 3 and Salvation were horrible movies and here they are trying to do a Star Trek reboot. It felt like it was ok in Star Trek, but for me it doesn't feel necessary to reboot this just yet. I kind of wish at least they'd go and make something completely new up with new set of characters. But I still will watch this. My curiosity is getting the better of me. And I do agree about Emilia. She isn't much of an actress. Even in GoT she isn't that good but I feel like she gets away with it a bit more because it's such a badass character.

This scene in the trailer made me laugh so much..

It's just the way she screams "come with me if you want to live" at him. Reminds me of the way Hayden Christensen screamed most of his lines in the Star Wars prequels; which is what she seems to do as I've seen a lot of people say she's the Anakin of Game of Thrones as she's always yelling with the same 'acting' range.

I think I would be more interested in this if James Cameron was involved as Terminator is his thing. I do know Alan Taylor sat down and spoke with him for an hour or two about the movie but my faith in him isn't too high as Thor 2 wasn't as good as it could have been.  :idk:

I was probably one of the few who didn't mind 'Rise of the Machines', although I agree that 'Salvation' was entirely forgettable. Christian Bale's verbal abuse of the lighting guy aside, I'm struggling to recall a thing about it.

Overall, as much as I'd question whether there's demand for a new Terminator movie in 2015, I just know I'll end up giving this a chance. :ninja:
