Man Tears, I have experienced the exact same scenario in my life, and surely have many others who saw this scene.  

 

It is an intensely bitter-sweet feeling, it is an intensely felt defeat and yet also a small victory. A traumatic departure.

 

A defeat as one has struggled for so long and made the most terrible sacrifices but also a victory as one has performed their maximum, honorable effort despite getting crushed by outside circumstances beyond one's control. And a small consolation as others have witnessed and acknowledged such efforts.

 

"Jefferson: I've offered the President my resignation.

 

I cannot descend daily into the arena

 

to suffer martyrdom on every conflict..

 

Adams: We have been the best of partners..  

 

Let us descend together!  Let us fight together!..

 

Jefferson: My departure will be a great relief to me,

 

And no great loss to the public.

 

Adams: It will be a great loss to me.."

 

 

I won't make the same choice as her..

My future is going to be different..
