It is an American holiday to give thanks to the Founding Fathers of this nation that gave us freedom. It is celebrated (read: observed) on the Fourth Thursday in November here in the United States. Abraham Lincoln made it a Federal Holiday in the 1800s.

Typical traditions is to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on the NBC TV network; watching pro NFL football games, and watching marathons of TV series that might be running on the cable networks; and lastly an ideal thanksgiving dinner (that varies family to family) of turkey, potatoes, stuffing, other vegetables, and apple pie as the desert.

Thanksgiving in most locales in the U.S. is the second true "holiday" behind Christmas where virtually everything is shut down. Unfortunately Christmas may only be the lone true holiday due to many retailers opening Thanksgiving night beginning this year. An utter shame in my opinion.

To my fellow American users, I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!
