I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what defines this era if anything at all. The supermodel era I suppose was defined by some of the top models being known and treated like celebrities. After that it seems came the heroin chic era by the drugged out look, thinspiration and the late 90s to mid 2000s seemed to be the Brazilian invasion starting off with initially a bunch of blonde Euro Brazilians late 90s to early 2000s and from then a wider range of Brazilians. I'm not sure how to define the current era. I know there are tons and tons of agencies now and as a result, I see a lot of promissing models people are excited about initially but forget about when they don't get that much work and their thread gets burried as a result, so maybe its the one hit wonder era? Any thoughts or insight would be welcome :) .

Actually One hit wonder era is not too bad as an overall term. Though I think it would be a bit too harsh since there are promising models who are pushed by the industry: Joan, Arizona... I guess we don't know whether they'll become supers. Time will tell.

Atleast I hope that this whole newbie thing slows down a bit. It's going a little bit too far for me now - there are so many girls who are incredibly talented and drop-dead-beautiful but the industry just drops them like nobodys. It's going on and on so you can't even be happy for models that start out as Calvin Klein exclusives or Prada or Balenciaga. It doesn't mean anything anymore. Because next season? There are younger girls who'll take over your place.

Times have really changed and even the biggest models from the 00ies have such a hard time (Vlada, Snejana..?). It's sad.

Thanks for the insight :) . I guess maybe the problem is that the number of models are growing (likely due to the increasing number of agencies combined with them starting younger and younger) whereas the number of designers and lucrative gigs isn't growing at the same rate and thus making models more expendable? Maybe more designers is the answer? I guess to look at it on the positive side, the fact that there are more models means that a greater number are getting an opportunity than maybe would have gotten it before and there is a wide divertity. Maybe social media can play into the hands of some too I guess since with the internet no one ever really totally disappears technically. At least its another way to keep your face out there :ninja: .
