Theron and Townsend separated in January 2010 after nearly nine years together. As of February 2014 she is dating actor Sean Penn. Whom I envy and will hate eternally. Charlize deserves the best of the best and I don't think Sean is it.

Even though Penn is slightly overrated in Hollywood, he has done good work as both a director (Into the wild) and actor (Milk, Dead Man Walking). Whether he will make a good long-term partner for Charlize is another matter, but one that is entirely her own business.
April 20, 201411 yr In my opinion, a Method Actor can be a good actor, but Method actors are often characterized as immersing themselves in their characters, to the extent that they stay "in character" offstage or off-camera for the duration of a project. i.e. Clint Eastwood is a wonderful director, but as an actor he practically always played himself and never changed characters,( always a tough "Hombre"). One can enjoy the acting of a Method Actor. (and I enjoy Clint's pictures enormously, even his spaghetti Westerns). But a star like Charlize can play realistically many different roles to perfection, she gives life and dimension to a fictional character which is not herself. SEAN A REAL CHARACTER Penn was engaged to actress Elizabeth McGovern, his co-star in 1984's Racing with the Moon. Penn's personal life( he was an unknown until then) began to attract media attention when he married pop singer Madonna in 1985.
