Jeremy Renner and Bradley Cooper Join American Bullsh*t

Jeremy Renner and Bradley Cooper are in negotiations to star in American Bullsh*t for Sony Pictures and director David O. Russell.

Eric Singer (The International) wrote the screenplay, based on the true story of a con artist and his mistress, who were forced to work with the FBI to take down other grifters, mobsters, and politicians involved in a vast conspiracy. Jeremy Renner is in talks to replace Christian Bale as Jimmy Boyle, the FBI agent who busts the con artist, Mel Weinberg (Bradley Cooper), and forces him to help solve the Abscam corruption case, which spans from Philadelphia to Washington D.C.

Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures is financing the drama. She will also produce alongside Charles Roven, Richard Suckle, and Ted Schipper. Production is scheduled to begin in February. Bradley Cooper also stars in David O. Russell's latest, The Silver Linings Playbook, arriving in theaters November 21.

American Bullshit comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper. The film is directed by David O. Russell.

Aaaaaa, I love Amy

Amy Adams Joins Bradley Cooper & Jeremy Renner In New David O. Russell Film

We can' t have been the only one that felt that Amy Adams got a little cheated at the Oscars a few years back. Melissa Leo is a wonderful actress, and was very good in "The Fighter," but she wasn't even the Best Supporting Actress in that film, let alone among the nominees. That particular honor went to Adams, who was tremendous in David O. Russell's film, and if we'd had our way, it would have been her walking away with the statuette in February 2011, not Leo.

But it looks like Adams is going to have another chance at glory in a Russell film, as The Hollywood Reporter brings news that the actress, soon to be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" and Zack Snyder's "Man Of Steel," has signed on to the director's latest picture. Formerly titled "American Bullshit," and now unsurprisingly untitled, the film stars Bradley Cooper as real-life conman Mel Weinberg, who teamed with the FBI for a massive corruption case, with Jeremy Renner (who replaced Christian Bale in the film yesterday) as the agent in charge of the case.

Adams will play Max Gardner, Weinberg's co-conspirator and girlfriend, and it sounds like yet another part that'll let one of the most gifted actresses of her generation show that she's got far more range than we all suspected from her breakout rules in "Junebug" and "Enchanted." Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures is backing the film, with Sony set to distribute in the U.S, and filming gets underway in February, so we could see this as soon as next year's award season.

Bradley Cooper and Patricia Clarkson to Star in Williamstown’s ‘Elephant Man’

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.) – People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” will transform himself into the hideously deformed title character of The Elephant Man when Bradley Cooper, star of Hollywood comedies including The Hangover and Wedding Crashers, tackles the dramatic role of John Merrick at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, in a production also starring indie film queen Patricia Clarkson. The play, written by Bernard Pomerance and directed by Scott Ellis, runs from Wednesday, July 25, 2012, through August 5, 2012.

Also in the cast are Tony Award-winner Shuler Hensley (Oklahoma!, Young Frankenstein) as Ross/Bishop How/Snork, Scott Lowell (Queer as Folk) as Will/Lord John/Earl, Alessandro Nivola (WTF’s As You Like It, Coco Before Chanel) as Frederick Treves, Marguerite Stimpson (Butley) as Sandwich/Countess/Alexandra, and Henry Stram (WTF’s The Importance of Being Earnest) as Carr Gomm/Conductor.

From a desperate existence in a Victorian freak show to his days as the toast of London high society, the life of John Merrick, the Elephant Man, has fascinated the world for well over a century. Though his disfigurement brought notoriety, it was his unblemished inner humanity that most astonished those around him, compelling examinations of their own prejudices and beliefs. Shattering our illusions of normalcy, The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance weaves Merrick’s tale into a parable on beauty, innocence, and human dignity.

A perennial favorite, The Elephant Man has been widely produced on stage and on the large and small screen. Actor Philip Anglim created the role of John Merrick at the National Theatre in London before tackling it in New York; subsequent actors including Mark Hamill and rock star David Bowie in a stunning performance. The 1980 film version was stylistically directed by David Lynch and starred John Hurt. Interestingly, the 1982 TV film version starring Anglim featured a script adapted from the Pomerance play by none other than longtime WTF associate Steve Lawson.

Jennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook

We caught the great first trailer for David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook last month, and following this afternoon’s announcement that the film will be making its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, we’ve now got a new look at the two leading stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

Both Lawrence and Cooper have of course had something of a meteoric rise in recent years, with Cooper taking off tremendously with The Hangover and everything since, and Lawrence of course making a name for herself in The Hunger Games earlier this year.

Starring alongside them will be Julia Stiles, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, and Chris Tucker.

“Life doesnt always go according to planPat Solatano has lost everything — his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother and father after spending eight months is a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat’s parents want is for him to get back on his feet – and to share their family’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.”

Russell is directing from his own script, adapting the original novel by Matthew Quick.

Silver Linings Playbook will be released by The Weinstein Company in the US on 21st November, followed swiftly by a 23rd November release in the UK. If you’re lucky enough to be heading to Toronto this September, you’ll be getting a look a full two months before the rest of the world. For now, enjoy this new image of the leading stars, which you can click to enlarge.
