Biography: Alex O’Loughlin - started his career as a teenager in Short film and Fringe Theatre in Sydney. He attended numerous classes and courses in acting until finally, at the age of 22 was accepted into the premier Australian theatre school The National Institute of Dramatic Art whose alumni includes such famed actors as Mel Gibson and Cate Blanchett. He subsequently developed his craft by appearing in a wide variety of live theatrical productions from the works of such masters as Shakespeare, Chekhov and Tolstoy to the great English modern playwright Edward Bond. He graduated after 3 years with a Bachelors Degree in Dramatic Art. Alex had played in a number of Television Guest Star roles when he made his feature film debut in the sci-fi horror thriller “MANTHING” based on the Marvel Comic. He also starred in the critically acclaimed Australian comedy “OYSTER FARMER,” directed by Anna Reeves and the highly controversial indie feature “FEED.” O’Loughlin co-created the original concept of “FEED,” a unique thriller which delves into the bizarre world of fat erotica. Alex then impressed us with his portrayal of the character William Bryant in “THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY OF MARY BRYANT,” (a UK-Australia co-production for Screentime/Granada) working alongside Sam Neil, Jack Davenport and Romola Garai. It was in this highly acclaimed production that Alex was nominated for two of Australia’s most prestigious acting awards – An AFI for best actor, and a LOGIE for the same. Alex then joined the team of the FX hit drama “THE SHIELD” for most of season 6, where he played the new potential leader of Vic Mackey’s strike team, Kevin Hyatt. Following this we saw Alex star in the feature films “THE INVISIBLE” with Marcia Gay Harden and Justin Chatwin, directed by David Goyer, and “AUGUST RUSH,” alongside Robin Williams, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Terrence Howard, Keri Russell and Freddie Highmore, directed by Kirsten Sheridan. O’Loughlin then took the helm of a CBS/Warner Bros. television show “MOONLIGHT” in which he played the central role of Mick St. John. The 36-year-old actor is already father to 15-year-old son Saxon, by a former partner. And Malia is a mum for the second time; she has three-year-old son Spike, also from a previous relationship. The bouncing baby's name is yet to be revealed. O’Loughlin and Jones, a surfer and model, first stepped out as a couple last November. The couple announced the pregnancy in August. In addition to his role as Steve on the CBS show, the actor is also known for starring opposite Jennifer Lopez in The Back-up Plan. Australian born O'Loughlin, 36, is currently shooting the third season of Hawaii Five-0. He previously dated actor Holly Valance for four years until the pair broke up in 2009.
