PINK GLASSES, CRYSTALS AND A MINI GRAND PIANO: AT HOME WITH MIRANDA KERR

We're so used to seeing her on red carpets and in glossy editorials, that it's not often we think about Miranda Kerr throwing a dinner party or hanging out at home with her son, Flynn. She may be one of the biggest names in modelling, but it turns out putting flowers in a vase, cooking with a friend and sipping chamomile tea with Flynn are some of her favourite things to do. This is the side Miranda shares with the world through her Royal Albert collection. A glassware extension of the range — featuring blush champagne flutes with little etched butterflies — has just been released. The campaign for shot at her beach-side home in Malibu. To celebrate the collection, POPSUGAR Australia caught up with homegrown hottie Miranda to find out more about her home life, interior style and favourite teas.

On creating a tea and glassware range . . .

"So, Royal Albert approached me and asked me if I would like to design a tea set collection with them. And I felt like it was a really great alignment because I grew up spending a lot of time at my grandmother's house and she has a really beautiful tea set collection that's her prized possession. It's in a glass cabinet and I would look at it when I was little and say 'Oh they're so beautiful,' and she would get them out on special occasions and we would have tea together. They're very fond memories that I have, so when they approached me I was like for sure, I would love to do this as something that's dear to my heart and really special."

On her connection to the butterfly motif . . .

"Butterflies, to me, are very symbolic of growth and transformation and I feel that there's such a great lesson with the story of a butterfly. The cocoon is a challenging time of transition for the butterfly but it comes out the other end with beautiful open wings and the ability to can fly. I find that a very powerful message and that's why I wanted to include them as part of the collection I have done for Royal Albert, even the glassware includes the butterflies on there. They're etched into the glasses, it's very subtle and very beautiful. Meaningful and also very beautiful."

On why she made the glassware pink. . .

"I was wondering how I could make a champagne flute that really has my essence in it. And I'm a big believer in colour therapy, and very much into chakras, and the pink is all about the heart chakra. It's the colour that balances the heart, so I wanted to incorporate a little soft pink. It's a very loving colour. The result is very delicate, almost like, it's there, but it's very, very subtle."

On playing hostess . . .

"I love to entertain and I love to have like champagne and cheese and I love to have a full dinner party as well. If I'm having a dinner party, say for 10 people, then I like to make sure that everything is ready to go before they arrive so that I can really focus my attention on my guests. I will pre-make everything that morning so that it's fresh and ready to go. I also like to have a girlfriend come over, and we cook together.

On tea with Flynn . . .

"My son loves the collection and he'll be like, [imitating Flynn's voice] "Mummy, should we have a cup of tea?" [laughs] And he'll have a chamomile tea."

On her favourite room in the house . . .

"Probably the kitchen, because I'm always in the kitchen. I actually just designed a room off the kitchen that is like a playroom for Flynn because I'm always in there. He can play and draw when and I'm right there with him."

On her favourite things in the house . . .

"I have a mini grand piano which I really love. It's actually clear so the way that it reflects light is really great. It creates rainbows all over my house. I also have my crystals, I have rose quartz crystals, clear quartz and I have amethyst throughout my house and those things are my favourite. And obviously my collection for Royal Albert is really special to have in my home because I designed it, it's really my whole vibe, my whole aesthetic. It makes me feel really proud to have it. For instance, when I use the vase, it's a beautifully shaped vase, round, because I really like round vases — I like that they feel so soft and more soothing than a straight edge glass. I was very specific with that vase and having those little vases around makes me feel good. You can see the subtle butterfly if you look really closely, it's just like that little added detail and it feels uplifting because it's personal."

On how she likes to unwind at home . . .

"I like to do multiple things to relax; turning on the music, going swimming with Flynn and actually when I get home sometimes it's nice to lay down and put my legs up the wall. It's a good way to re-energise. I like to do yoga, I like to have a little picnic outside with Flynn, I like to read, I like to take a bath and I like to get a massage."

On whether she prefers a date night out or a girls night in . . .
"[laughs] Let's say a girl's night. A girl's tea party."
