March 7, 20169 yr FMD Model of the Month - May 2015 - Jacqueline Oloniceva http://www.fashionmodeldirectory.com/models/modelofthemonth/jacqueline-oloniceva/2015-may/  Quote Latvia is the birthplace of many beauties, successfully employed around the world. From the most famous models from Latvia one can notably recall to mind: Ginta Lapina, Inguna Butane, Ieva Laguna. However, one model that deserves much attention is none other than Jacqueline Oloniceva. The 27 year old is a mind blowing sight and is as hot as her name is hard to spell. Best known for her Lee Cooper Jeans campaigns and her sizzling Agent Provocateur photoshoots, the blue eyed beauty stands at 5’9" with a 34" bust, 36" hips, and a tiny 23.5" waist. Transcending all stereotypes Jacqueline at first did not want to be a model and had her sights set on having a role in advertising in PR business. Her mother wanted her to become a model and took her to an agency in Riga. After graduation she decided to travel and work as a model for a year and returned for a master degree later. While she has been a commercial model for most of her career, Oloniceva says she always dreamed to be a runaway model. In an exclusive interview with the FMD, Jacqueline discusses her beginings, her beauty secrets and her plans for the future.Check out Jacqueline's profile and sound of on twitter @lovefmd1_com using the hashtag #lovefmd You have an amazing portfolio and have worked on so many projects as a model. Which of those projects would you say you are most proud of and why? I am proud of every job I did and I love what I do, otherwise I wouldn’t work as a model. But I can say it is always nice to see my face on a TV ad or on the posters in the window shop. You have done a lot of catalogue shoots. How would you describe the difference between catalogue models and editorial models? Catalogue purpose is to sell clothes, that’s why a company would choose a model who would represent their image. A Catalogue model doesn’t have to be super tall or super skinny, she just has to look good in outfits and she has to sell the product. Also nowadays many prefer a girl with experience who knows how to move and make clothes look beautiful on a photo. Did you always want to become a fashion catalogue model? Of course I dreamed to be a runaway model. I started a full time career quite late (according to the "rules“ of a fashion world) and not as skinny as they want their model to be, so I was always in the commercial division of the agency and I couldn’t get why! It just with time that I understood that I do prefer the commercial part of the industry) How long does a shoot for a catalogue job take on average? What was the longest catalogue job you ever had? Usually it’s anything from 8h to 10h a day. The catalogues, which are shot on the location, are usually longer. The call time for hair and make-up might be long before sunrise, so with the first sunshine the model is ready for the shoot. My longest job was actually for a TV ad, I came to the studio at 8am in the morning and was going home only next day at 8 am in the morning. It was almost a 24 hour shoot! Of course looking at the video after, it was totally worth it. Through social media and also the rising trend of e-commerce, catalogue models get more and more attention? Do you think that there's a trend arising for fashion commercial models? Oh definitely, e-commerce now is a powerful industry and especially through social media , girls become more popular in public. Sometimes in London on the street I would be approached by random girls who would recognize me from their favorite website. Did you always wanted to be a model, or did you stumble upon it, get discovered etc.? Who or what inspired you to become a model? How did you get started in the modeling business? I didn’t want to be model, I was in a Rhythmic gymnastics team and was very focused on the sport, plus my studies. I knew I would go to university after school for a bachelors and master’s degree. I saw myself in Advertising in PR business. My mother though wanted me to become a model so she took me to my first agency in Riga. I remember the first year I was escaping all castings I was given, but with the time I got sucked into the agency. Of course I was still more focused on getting a degree. After graduation I decided to travel and work as a model for a year and return for a master degree after that year. And you know, few years later, I am still traveling and working nonstop as a model. What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model? What do you like least? Have you encountered any surprises along the way? What has been your most awkward moment (of your modeling career)? Being a model helped me to discover the world. Thankfully I visited many countries, which I don’t think I would be able to visit on my own. It is definitely the most exciting aspect. Awkward moment? Yes, it just happened recently, I was sure I was shooting a TV advertisement, when I finally got on set, the photographer started taking pictures, and was trying to figure out the lighting, and there was only 10-20 min of looking around, I had this awkward question of whether we were shooting stills and not video.. Oops How would you describe yourself as model in three words? Beautiful Sexy Out of all the places your career has taken you, where was the most memorable? Definitely Sydney was most exciting city I have ever travelled. I had such a joy to be there. Who is your favorite photographer? Why? Ellen Von Umwerth because she does know how to make a woman look beautiful sexy and sophisticated at the same time. What was the hardest photo shoot for you, and why? Its either cold outside and I am in a bikini or it is a hot summer day, and I am shooting winter catalogue Is there a difference in posing when you are doing a cover and an editorial? Of course it is. A magazine always attracts readers with a pleasant and welcoming face on it. Many magazines want just a pretty straightforward smile, for editorial you have to be more unique if I can say so, more creative with poses and facial expression. Is there an artistic or general difference in doing editorials/covers in Europe opposed to USA? There is a difference not between countries, but between editorials. We all know that a Cosmopolitan magazine will have a pretty smiling girl on its cover while Vogue will be fashion oriented. Did anyone in the industry ask you to change your look, name, etc… If so, what did you do? I had to change the spelling of my name, because of the way it sounds in Latvian and the way it is pronounced in English are two completely different things. Jacqueline (pronounced in a French way) is the way I was named by my parents and all my life I was called this way. But Latvian grammar rules of spelling made my name spelled in English as Zaklina. The sound of it in English breaks my ears! It is too sharp and I don’t like to be called this way. I was never named this way. What tips and advice do you have for aspiring models just starting out, something you wish someone would have told you? I wish when I started I were told not to take this journey as a job only. It is your life too, so live it and enjoy it of no matter where you are or how long you will be in a certain place. Have you had any negative experiences with model agencies, talent scouts? What are top 3 warning signs to look out for? I was lucky to be surrounded by amazing people and teams of different agencies. I would only suggest to new girls, you should see if your agent or booker is excited to have you on board. If they have doubts in you, or taking long time to answer, you don’t need them, you can find another agent who will be more excited to work with you. It’s about communication between a model and her booker/agent. If it’s not happening, then your career won’t be happening either. What should a relationship between an agent and model look like? Respectful, trustworthy, friendly. Do other models inspire you? In a way – yes. It’s always a learning process, for different poses, gests, and expressions. I do look into the magazines for the inspiration. How do you feel fashion has empowered you? Fashion industry? Knowledge and a life experience. Otherwise my character and my true self have never changed. What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Going to cinema is most favorite. I watch a lot of movies. I also like to be in nature a lot and spend the time outside. I like knitting (yes like a grandma,!) but I enjoy it. It relaxes my brain too. Who are your favorite fashion designers? I don’t have one particular fashion designer. My taste always changes. For shoes – I can say for sure Jimmy Choo and Giuseppe Zanotti. Best Jeans? Rag&Bone and Tommy Hilfiger What things in your wardrobe would you never throw away? Shoes! And anything which is from designer collection. What era would you like to bring back? I think the era of beautiful and confident women is coming back now, as it was the era of Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer. The public doesn’t want to see a skinny teenager anymore on every page of a magazine. Your favorite store? Barneys in USA and Harvey Nichols in London <3 What are your best beauty secrets? I don’t drink alcohol (occasionally and very little), I never smoke, plus good night sleep, loads of water, fruit and veggies instead of junk food, fresh juices instead of sodas. Do you have any beauty / skin care tips or tricks to look fresh and rested for early morning photo shoots? I usually wash my face with cold water to wake up and I don’t dry it with the towel, I just let the face dry naturally (that was my father's advice – never dry your face with a towel, let the water absorb into your skin) and after I use clarisonic brush to stimulate the skin cells. Do you believe in homemade recipes? Do you have one to share with us? Yes, absolutely. For a face scrub make a porridge out of quick oats and hot water. Put the thin layer on your face and let it set. When it’s dry, all you have to do is just gently rub it off with your hands. My body scrub recipe: is a spoonful of sugar and some olive oil. Sometimes I apply olive oil as a moisturizer for my body. How much attention do you pay to meditation & exercise, or is it all natural? How do you stay in shape? Oh yeah, I do have to work out! I’m not the girl who has a natural 6-pack! I work out 5-6 times a week. I usually split it between 2 yoga classes per week, 1-2 boxing classes, and my regular routine at the gym. Sometimes I would do some high intensity classes at the gym. I don’t like doing cardio though. What makes you feel sexy? My Agent Provocateur lingerie! Also light waves in the hair and long lashes. What is your favorite part about your body? My hair, my finger nails and my small waste Favorite kind of food: Ice cream! My favorite cuisine is Italian though, 100% When models say they eat healthy, what do they mean by that? For me healthy means loads of veggies and fruit. Plus never combining foods that doesn’t go together as starches, carbs and proteins. And less processed sugar! How would you describe yourself as a human being in three words? Energetic, Patient, Sincere. What’s controversial or unique about you? My look If you could have one superpower, what would you choose? I would love to be able to travel in time and places. What would you like to change about yourself if you can choose only one thing? Sometimes my stubbornness does me wrong, and I know when exactly. What are your favorite things to do in your free time? Adventure. I like doing things I have never done before and seeing places I haven’t seen before. Do you have a mentor? Who? What is it about them that affects you? Why? No. Do people act different around you since you’ve become a model? Maybe, but I try to stay to my roots and be very simple in my choices. Do you have any model friend that you would suggest for the next model of the month on FMD? My good friend Svieta Nemkova. Favorite kind of music? Favorite television series or movie? I like the music that lifts up your mood and makes you sing and dance with the beat. Best time favorite TV series are Friends, Big Ben Theory, How I met you mother. Movie? - The Notebook. What’s your favorite fashion magazine? Why? Umm, my choice would be strange, but it’s a free weekly magazine called Stylist in UK. Easy to pick up on the way to work, browse through pages and then leave it for somebody else to read. Happiness is … Inner piece with yourself If you could change one thing in the past years, what would it be? I would start my career couple years earlier People have said I look like … Adriana Lima Thank you Jacqueline for this great interview!note: all answers are original and unaltered - Editor|Iva Mirbach ; Intro|Clinton Gonsalvez Â
