immortals, the 3D pic from Relativity, may not make more than 40% of the $70.8M opening weekend amount that the original 2D movie did. Immortals right now is looking to be the #1 movie at the North American box office but "could be anybodys ballgame tonight, a rival studio exec cautions me. Immortals did $1.4M in midnight gross from approximately 900 locations which is so-so. On the other hand, Warner Bros J. Edgar is looking at a strong per screen average for Clint Eastwoods and Leonardo DiCaprios Oscar-buzzed biopic. Top 5 like this but check in later:

This is good cuz it was only on limited screens and also the movie is relatively low budget ($35 mill ) so it should definitely make a profit.

In spite of all the terrific performances he has given in the past, I think with this performance he tops himself.

Latest box office news from Deadline Hollywood

If it turns out to be accurate, they are estimating $18 million for "J Edgar" which is well over the pre opening estimates of 12.5

Plus it would be far better than "Ides of March" that opened in 300 more theaters, with overall better reviews.

I sure hope this $18 million weekend estimate turns out to be accurate

I'm thinking DiCaprio will not only be nominated, but could even win this time. What a gusty actor! After Titanic, he could have chosen to remain the heartthrob and do silly romantic comedies or brainless action movies. Instead, he takes on these parts that I don't think many other actors his age would ever consider tackling.
