Westwick pleased about Hoover role

Ed Westwick is "very excited" about his part in Clint Eastwood's J Edgar.

The Gossip Girl actor is playing Agent Smith, the biographer to the late FBI director, in the biographical drama alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular character.

"I've got a role in a new film with Leonardo DiCaprio that Clint Eastwood's directing called J Edgar - I play a young FBI agent, so I'm very excited," he told Alan Carr for More! magazine.

Naomi Watts will portray Hoover's secretary Helen Gandy, Judi Dench will star as his mother and The Social Network's Armie Hammer will play his protege Clyde Tolson in the film, penned by Dustin Lance Black.

Ed - who also stars in Chalet Girl with Felicity Jones and Bill Nighy - denied he plans to leave Gossip Girl, where he plays bad boy Chuck Bass.

It also looks like Wolf On Wall Street will be a ways away from shooting.

When news broke last month that Martin Scorsese had signed up for a fifth collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio in the form of "The Wolf of Wall Street," we started wondering what that meant for Scorsese's planned production with Robert De Niro, "The Irishman."

After finishing up the fantastical 3-D flick "Hugo Cabret," and shooting his long gestating "Silence" about Jesuits missionaries in 17th Century Japan, would Scorsese skip over "Irishman" and head straight into "Wall Street"?

That semed to be the plan according to multiple reports, but not to De Niro himself. When MTV News caught up with the man during a "Limitless" press day, De Niro told us "Irishman," his eighth collaboration with Scorsese, will still be the director's follow-up to "Silence."

"No," he said when asked if "Wolf of Wall Street" would delay "Irishman. "I think there's one other movie he's going to do called 'Silence,' it's a movie he's always been wanting to do, and he just finished 'Hugo Cabret,' and then we'll do our film."

A request for comment to Scorsese's rep was not immediately returned, but we'll bring you any updates as they come in.

So Martin is going to finish his current filming movie, then he will film the irishmen, AND THEN he will film the Wolf on Wall Street.

Interview with Amanda about Red Riding Hood

Amanda Seyfried is not, and says she will not be, a damsel in distress.

So that was consideration No. 1 when director Catherine Hardwicke ( Twilight) approached her with a werewolf-spun update of Red Riding Hood. That, and other concerns quickly abated.

"I actually didn't read the script before I met Catherine. She just had all these crazy visuals to show me (including Hieronymus Bosch-inspired drawings of a pagan celebration), so I thought how different it is to make this old timeless tale into a full-length movie.

"And then I met (producer) Leonardo DiCaprio," she says, with a laugh, "and that was it."

In fact, DiCaprio apparently came up with the concept of Red Riding Hood as medieval-werewolf tale in a late night session with one of his "posse," Lucas Haas (who has a small role in the film). DiCaprio tossed the idea at writer David Johnson, who wrote the horror film Orphan, which DiCaprio also produced.

The result is, dare we say, Twilight- esque, with Seyfried as Valerie, a young woman whose bosom heaves for a woodsman named Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) while being betrothed to another (Max Irons). Meanwhile, there's a werewolf and a grandmother (Julie Christie) who might be either a werewolf or a witch. But no vampires.

Kate talks about Leo in British Vogue

Kate Winslet says her close friend Leonardo DiCaprio has been her ''rock'' over the years since they starred in blockbuster 'Titanic' in 1997.

Kate Winslet claims Leonardo DiCaprio is her "rock".

The 35-year-old star has praised the 36-year-old actor - who she starred alongside in 1997 movie 'Titanic' and 2008's 'Revolutionary Road' - for supporting her through her recent split from her husband Sam Mendes and his general companionship.

The Oscar winner accepts many friendships between men and women begin with a sexual undercurrent but with her and Leonardo it's always been platonic and based on mutual respect and shared experiences.

She told Vogue magazine: "He knows me better than anyone else in the world.

"Lots of male friendships begin as a cheeky snog. Or a little undercurrent of flirtation. But Leo and I? No. He's my rock.

"I don't know what the f**k I would have done if I hadn't had him."

Leonardo believes the pair are so close because they have "grown up together" and always been there for each other.

He said: "We literally grew up together. And in every major life event we've been there as a support mechanism for each other."

Although Kate is appreciative of Leonardo's friendship, she insists she can get by on her own because she is a "very strong" person thanks to her children Mia, 10 and Joe, seven.

She said: "I am very strong. When you have children, you have to be. I'm not a believer in hiding things from my kids because ultimately they are going to have questions - they feel things."

Do We Consider Leonardo DiCaprio ‘Old’ Already?

While making the press rounds for Red Riding Hood, Amanda Seyfried compared Leonardo DiCaprio (who produced the film) to veteran actor/director/producer Robert De Niro because, like the legend, DiCaprio inspired “weird tension,” awe and inferiority complexes on set. That’s a compliment, I think, except for the fact that the two-time Oscar winner is 67 years old and DiCaprio is just 36. And now, of course, we are faced with the titular question, “Do we consider Leonardo DiCaprio ‘old’ already?”

If “old” is gauged by how long an actor has been working in Hollywood, DiCaprio is old. He’s been acting opposite A-list actors ever since 1993, when (coincidentally) De Niro cast him as his stepson-to-be in This Boy’s Life. This means that DiCaprio has been working alongside Oscar winners for over half of his life. But does the industry consider the actor “old?”

After years of playing tragedy-bound drifters, con artists, mentally ill teens and star-crossed lovers, DiCaprio made the parental casting jump in 2008 when, for the first time, the actor played a father — albeit, the miserable father — in Revolutionary Road. Since then, DiCaprio has played the parental part in Shutter Island (middle-aged widower/ father/U.S. Marshall) and Inception (middle-aged widower/father/corporate espionage thief).

On top of cornering the middle-aged widower/father market in cinema (which has aged the actor if not qualified him as old), DiCaprio remains committed to environmental activism which not only bores Us Weekly readers, but ages an actor in the eyes of the U.S. audience. If that isn’t enough to make him fit for this generation’s Werther’s spokesman, his vocal support for political figures like Al Gore, John Kerry, Barack Obama and Russian Prime minister Vladimir Putin basically makes the Oscar nominee an AARP member to the 11-year-old girls who taped his Titanic poster to their ceiling back in ‘97.

Finally, his transitioning role from actor to producer (which started back in 2004 with The Assassination of Richard Nixon) does put DiCaprio in elder Hollywood territory. Especially when considering that he never makes headlines for machete outbursts, domestic disputes or drug busts.

In review, DiCaprio’s real age is 36. His Hollywood casting age is “middle-aged.” And his Hollywood maturity age, compared to Charlie Sheen, is straight-up “old.” Which maybe isn’t such a bad thing after all. Viva la AARP!
