Are Itunes mp3's compatible with other players?

Do you need to pay a fee per month to be able to download, or can you just go in pick a song, pay for it and go?

I could probably find this out by going to the site, but I'm oh so lazy...

you can just download a song and pay, no monthly fee, however im not sure if it is compatible with other players, but for instance, anything i have downloaded on itunes wont play on windows media, does that answer you question

ok, so I'm looking for something that isn't an ipod because I'm going on vacation and ... well lol I need one. I'm kind of cheap but not cheap enough to buy something that is ugly (ewww the cheapo sensa ones). Oh ... and i'm looking for something that isn't over 150 before tax and that has at least 2GB (and no more than lol) because I'm not a lunatic and I know I won't listen to a 1000 songs  .... no offense to anyone.
