SI 2008 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
The one thing I'm absolutely obsessed with lately is ...
[Laughs.] So much, I can't even pick one. It would probably be just being on the road, traveling and working so much. I haven't been able to do this, ever really, because I've been tied down with school. I love seeing new places every other day, meeting new people and trying new foods. It's just different and good; it's a change. I just got back from Tahiti and I fell in love with that place, honestly. Yeah, I had no idea. I've traveled to a lot of great places, all of them great, but there's something special about Tahiti.
On a quiet, rainy day I usually ...
Sleep [laughs]. I love music. I can just sit there and listen; I constantly have music playing in my apartment, all the time. I listen to everything! I know people say everything, but I mean everything. Everything from rock to hip hop to house music to mellow, chill out music, and just everything, yeah. That's probably my No. 1 thing; I don't really like TV that much.
If I were giving a tour of my home, the one place I wouldn't show anyone is ...
Nowhere, I'll show you everything.
The sexiest thing a man has ever done for me is ...
Ooh [laughs], the first thing that comes to mind, honestly, it's just the little things. There was probably never anything outrageous that he did or that I did, but just small things. It's the detailed things, like maybe just a kiss at the perfect time or just a big hug, you know, just something like that, a moment. That's more so what I would consider super special and sexy. I can't think of a particular one right now. There have been a couple of times when maybe we're watching a show, a concert or a band play, and just both us being really into it, yeah there's been a few times like that with my boyfriend ... we'll gaze into each other's eyes and share a kiss at that moment. Also, on vacation, of course, there are tons of moments like that.
I feel a secret connection with ...
I love Bjork. I just saw her recently and I connect with her, and I totally get it. She is inspirational, yeah, I love her. And um, actresses, I don't really know ... probably some smaller, obscure ones, but not like ... some people may say some of the bigger ones, say like, Angelina Jolie. You know I respect them all. Maybe certain ones like Jennifer Connelly, with her personality shining through her acting and such. Someone like her. Yeah, I get her.
In a past life I was ...
I do believe I had a past life, that's for sure (laughs). A lot of people tell me that I have an older spirit. I feel like I was definitely a traveler, someone who covered a lot of area and was very into learning and open to change. Maybe in a past life I was a traveler of some sort, an explorer.
If I didn't have any responsibilities tomorrow morning, I would spend tonight ...
Well, I am not in my hometown. I'm not in New York, where most of my friends are. I'm in L.A., but if I were in New York, I would be out with my friends and I'd have a great dinner and go to a lounge and have some drinks and catch up. Definitely not worry about the time at all. That whole deal, the closing at 2 a.m. and driving in traffic, is why I don't live in L.A.
If I didn't have any responsibilities for a week, I would go to ...
This is going to sound kind of boring, but I would just go home and catch up on everything, like organizing my life [laughs]. I told you it was going to be boring. Just getting home and making sure everything is taken care of because I have been dying to do that; I have not been at home. So if I had the week off, I would reorganize myself.
If you asked my friends about me, the first thing they would tell you is ...
They'd say that I'm very modest and that I don't like to talk about myself all that much, so it kind of goes hand-in-hand with this question. Yeah, that's what they'd say, that I'm modest and humble.
The last thing I really splurged on was ...
I went on a shopping spree yesterday in the Santa Monica area. They have so many great shops here, and I didn't even expect to, but I went into like two shops and found a bunch of great stuff. I bought some bags, some jewelry, and some shirts, and all that good stuff. So yeah, I was excited.
If I were going to a costume party tonight, I would dress as ...
You know what I saw once, that I wanted to do, but I never got to because I'm always busy during Halloween? It's really simple, easy costume. You get a bunch of name tags, like "Hi, my name is ...", and put them all over yourself, put different names, and you're an identity crisis. Yeah, I could do that because it's easy, not that much effort, it's comfortable, and it's kind of modest. It's not like what a girl would do, go out and get all crazy and slutty with their outfit.
When I get dressed to go to the grocery store, my clothing inspiration is ...
Something comfortable and casual like a T-shirt and jeans, nothing too crazy.
When I get dressed up for a party, my clothing inspiration is ...
I like to wear a nice outfit with some jewelry and maybe a matching bag.
One thing I do only when I'm home completely alone is ...
I dance a lot by myself. You know how I love music, and I love to have it playing in my place. And I'm always usually ... if I'm chilling I'll listen to music, like if I'm cleaning up I'll listen to a different kind of music. I'm always sort of grooving to it. I don't do that when people are around. I'll put on a playlist, and it has a mixture of everybody.
The one thing I hate for people to know about me is that I ...
I don't really have anything, I am who I am. Yeah, I mean, I don't really have anything to hide and if anyone's found out something, then whatever. Yeah, I can't think of anything.
If I had to spend $1 million right now, I would ...
I'd definitely give a bunch of it away to my parents and they can do whatever they want with it. I'd go buy some homes, a property or something like that. Definitely New York or L.A., I'm there the most. I don't have a home right now, so anything would be good. Maybe, yeah, I would definitely try to get a little place by the beach, even if it's tiny, you know? But before that I'd try to help my parents, whatever they wanted, because I owe them big time.
If I had to spend $10 right now, I would ...
I'd probably go down and get a burger. It doesn't have to be a burger, but just some food.
The sexiest I've ever felt was ...
I always feel sexy doing, you know, shoots, and people liking what I'm doing and confirming that I can be sexy. I don't really think of myself that way, so I guess any shoot if they like what I'm doing. If it's a sexy shoot in particular, like lingerie or swimwear, that makes me feel sexy. I like the work that's been coming out with Victoria's Secret, that's been done with the swimwear. I've been working with Pink; it's kind of more fun and young and I think it's sexy but, I mean, just to do swimwear and be up there with those beautiful girls, that's just extra special to be a part of that. So yeah, just the swimwear.
The one place I've seen that I'll never forget is ...
Out of all of them, the one that pops immediately into mind would be Tulum, Mexico, because it has the most amazing sky I've ever seen. I see a lot of amazing beaches and landscapes, but I don't think anything really tops the sky that I saw there, the stars, I'll never forget that. Oh, it was just super clear and it was out in the middle of nowhere, so it was dark, as dark can be ... so between being super clear and super dark the stars were just ... it felt like it was just right on top of your head and there were just so many of them, just gleaming. Yeah, it was beautiful.
I won't date a man if he ...
Ooh, there's a lot of qualities. Arrogance. Yeah, if he's just like completely arrogant, full of himself, I guess. I don't really like that. Even if he can be, for whatever reason, if he's super hot, or super smart, whatever, I don't like people who flaunt that.
My favorite time to be naked is ...
Um, [laughs], all the time. Not so much in front of people, but just when I'm home alone, I guess. Anytime I'm home alone.
When it comes to nudity, most people don't know that I ...
I guess that I sleep in the nude sometimes. I don't know if that's surprising. Yeah I'm not a crazy nudist, but I'm pretty open-minded to that. I guess it feels nice, I mean I've never gone completely nude, but it feels nice to be topless when you're at the beach. That feels kinda cool.
When I open my eyes in the morning, the very first thing on my mind is ...
I want to go back to sleep. I always say 'What time is it? I want to go back to sleep.' Yeah, I love to sleep.
My favorite thing to do in the comfort of my own room is ...
I like to play with my puppy. I like to attack him and toss him on the bed and goof off with him. His name Slayer, and he's a Chihuahua. He's a year old, but he's not like a tea-cup, little frail Chihuahua with an attitude. He's so much fun, with floppy ears and a great personality; he loves everyone. He's my little friend.
An athlete I have a secret crush on is ...
I don't really know too many athletes. I don't pay attention. I don't know their names. I mean, I don't really watch too many sports. I mean, if anything, I used to know a lot of surfers because I surfed a lot growing up in California. I looked up to them, but I don't know anyone's names anymore.
How about an entertainer?
I'm not gonna tell [laughs]. I'd ruin my chances! Maybe Brandon Boyd from Incubus. He's hot.
If I could be anything but a model, I would be ...
I always wanted to be an artist, an artist of any kind. Nowadays they do it all, whether its graphic arts, or sculpting or paintings, but just being an artist in some expressive form like that and to be able to make a living off of it [Laughs].
If I could be anywhere else in the world right now, I would be ...
Maybe down in Indonesia or the Thailand area. I always wanted to go there and I haven't quite made it down there yet. It's nice this time of year. I have some friends down there.
In a group of people, I'm always the first to ...
I guess, in general, I'm always the first to take action on whatever we're doing. Yeah, because I'm easy going and want to do things and not wait around too long. But not in an obnoxious way. But if we're doing something, I'm into it and I'll get riled up for it. The first to take action, I guess, on what we're doing.
The worst lie I ever told was ...
Ooh, I've told a few lies. I'm usually pretty straight forward, actually, but there's a few that I've told that I don't really want to think about. But when I was younger, I used to get my brothers and sisters in trouble. I grew up with a stepbrother, a stepsister and two biological brothers, and I was the youngest of all of them, so I'm sure I told little lies to get them in trouble. You know, so-and-so hit me or so-and-so did this. I did tons of those kinds of lies.
To impress a cute man at a bar, I would ...
I'd do it in more of a sly way, I guess. I do the eye contact thing. The mysterious sort of eye contact thing.
The last time I saw a woman and thought "I wish I looked like her" was ...
I don't know; I like the way I look. I think all of girls are pretty or beautiful, but I don't think I would like to look like anyone but me. I guess anyone who has amazing eyes because I always notice that. I have just sort of dark brown eyes, and that's it [laughs]. Even my little qualities that might not be considered great, I don't care what people think. I love everything about me.
The one thing I'm superstitious about is ...
One thing I'm super superstitious about is just being thoughtful of my surroundings. I was born in Hawaii, even though I grew up California, but I've always kept in touch with that culture, you know my parents taught me and what not. They taught me never to take from the land. People go there and they'll take rocks or shells or whatever, and they take away from the land. I'm very superstitious about that because I was told in a spiritual way you're supposed to kind of ask for it, it should be given, or else if you don't do that you kind of bring something bad upon yourself. I don't know why I believe that. Anyone who does that, I sort of tell them that and say, 'Oh, you better be careful.'
My personal hero is ...
Everyone's a hero in their own way. I don't know. Everyone. My mom, a lot of people might have said that, but definitely my mom is my hero. She's a wonderful person and I look up to her and what she's gone through for me, for my brothers. I'd say she's my hero, but everyone is to me, anyone who brought anything to my life, good and bad, you learn from everything. But there's no one like a momma.
Where's your hometown?
I grew up in Orange County, Calif., in Mission Viejo. It was good, nice area. Big, clean. It's a suburb, it's pleasant.
Do you have any sort of special connection with your hometown?
Yeah, there are definitely a lot of memories there within the area and my parents still live there, so we have our home there. My friends are still there; I've kept in touch with a few friends over the years. It'll always be home to me. It's more the people that were in my life that are still there or that I met there, than the place; it's just another beautiful California city.
Where's the one place you have to go when you're in your hometown?
It's so small to me. There's a lake, a couple malls, houses, high schools, um, my house! Go to my house because my parents can cook up some great food. They cook all kinds of food. I think my favorite is my mom's chicken soup; it's like no other when I'm not feeling well. I can't make it like hers; I can't make it at all, actually. That and just Hawaiian food because you don't get that too many places.
How do you feel about environmental issues such as global warming or pollution?
We're definitely ruining our environment, that's for sure. I can see changes, and it's scary, it really is. It's an eye opener. I think that even little things, even if you're not a fanatic environmentalist, I think there are little things that people can do to care for the environment and take care of Mother Nature. I try, I do. I'm all for saving our planet.
