The festival backers gets all the free publicity for their event by having all these well known stars in attendance /on their red carpet /good ticket sales . And the studios at same time have yet another opportunity for their award contenders to be before the press/ getting a chance to press the flesh with award voters. Quentin, like Chris Waltz, has been and will continue to be to the final Oscar ballots are mailed out there campaigning for votes from Academy members. I personally don't think these type of events are Leo's favorite thing to do, and since Quentin is part of the Dango award campaign team, I suspect Leo suggested why not let Quentin be the one to attend and do the meet and greet afterwards with potential award voters. Or as Leo's Jack Dawson would say " I know how the world of award campaigning really works and what these events are really all about ." ByPrincess I was referring to Quentin in terms of director, but, yes, Django the film does have several nominations beyond Waltz's acting nod. Mz_Linz Personally I don't think Harvey asked Leo to step aside, I would think it was more Leo deciding since it was all along Dango pr award related , why not let Quentin be the one to do it as Quentin is , like Waltz, an active part of the award campaigning that is going on right now and will continue up to deadline for Oscar votes.

ByPrincess Yes, if one looks at other honorees they are all Oscar players . And be it the Palms Spring Film Festival or this festival typically appearances /awards are connected to award pr /getting additional exposure for film/nominee. Who knows, maybe since Leo is not nominated, he suggested let Quentin do it instead . Quentin isn't Oscar nodded either, but it will still mean that Dango gets award pr attention.
