I LEAVE THE DOORS OPEN The Rossoneri’s captain, Paolo Maldini, spoke with regards to the current condition of Roma and about his future: “With regards to my future, I still leave the doors open.” – PAOLO MALDINI’S DECLARATIONS - MILANELLO – These are the declarations of Paolo Maldini with Milan Channel, before today’s training session: “On Saturday evening there will be the match against Roma. They are a team which express the best game in the Italian football and managed to find continuity despite the delicate moment it went through. It managed to go forward in the Champions League, even in such a moment. I thought that even we would qualify, but a lot was due to the draw. Roma proved to have more character and quality than Real Madrid. On Saturday we shall find a good group, amongst the Giallorossi there are important players such as Totti, Vucinic and Mancini, therefore we shall have to run a lot. “Milan right now is not at its best, but the away game at Yokohama forced us to an incredible tour de force. History tells us that whoever plays this type of tournament, on their return finds difficulty in the league, but now we have the possibility to work more and to train well to improve our quality of the game. “The win at Empoli was surely a positive note, as it gave us an important sign. It was fundamental to take back home a positive result. “With regards to my future, I still leave the doors open. Before I thought I was hundred percent convinced that I will stop by the end of the season, but lately I received a lot of praise and together with my physical condition, which is better than last year during the same period, they made me think. I must therefore still decide what to do about my future.”

Cricket is socially relevant : Shah Rukh KOLKATA, MAR 11 Megastar Shah Rukh Khan adored cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar, was fond of wicketkeeping in his youth and bought an Indian Premier League team as he considered cricket a sport which was socially relevant. Khan, who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders team, said his interest in the IPL stemmed from a desire to immerse himself - apart from acting - in something which was socially relevant. "For the last four to five years, I was thinking of doing something for cricket. I wanted to do something which appeals to the youth as they inspire me. NGOs wanted me to do lot of social work. But I think sports is one stream which is socially very relevant. Cricket is the most popular sport in India," King Khan said in an interiew to PTI. The 42-year-old film hero, who admires Mother Teresa for her work among the poorest of the poor and the infirm, said he had succeeded in life by following three simple tenets - hard work, not thinking badly of others and honesty. "Besides, I always wanted to wear the golden helmet, which to me is a metaphor for being victorious," said Shah Rukh, who shot into limelight in 1985 with the popular television serial 'Fauji.' The golden helmet is the logo of the Kolkata Knight Riders. SRK may be a traffic stopper and the reigning king of Bollywood, but he was modest about his achivements which also included a plethora of acting awards as also the Padma Shri. "I thank God for whatever I have become today. I'm glad to have been born in an age when Indian films have started making an impact. The essence of Indian cinema is reaching all over the world. So, whatever honour I have got is due mainly to the success of Indian films," he said. Khan felt that his team Knight Riders had it in them to win the league. "We have a great coach in John Buchanan, a great captain in Sourav Ganguly, and a host of stars like Shoaib Akhtar, Chris Gayle, Ricky Ponting, the experienced Ajit Agarkar and the young sensation Ishant Sharma. We also have a great support staff. I see no reason why we should not succeed." On actress Preity Zinta's remarks that she wanted to see her Mohali team play and beat his team in the final, Khan said with a smile "I wish her all the best. We hope to play good cricket."

Shahrukh Khan names team 'Kolkata Knight Riders' KOLKATA, MAR 11 'Korbo, Lorbo, Jitbo' will be the war cry of Shah Rukh Khan-owned Knight Riders, one of the eight teams participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL). "The team will perform on the maxim 'Korbo, Lorbo and Jitbo' (we'll do it, fight and win the battle)," Khan of Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd said today. "The idea and ideology behind naming the team Kolkata Knight Riders is because I want to appeal to the youth of the country," the matinee idol said. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will captain the team, while former Australian coach John Buchanan will be its coach. Ganguly and Buchanan were present on the occasion as also President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) Prasun Mukherjee and actor Juhi Chawla and her husband Jai Mehta. Khan also unveiled the logo and mascot royal bengal tiger 'Hoog Lee' of the team and played the anthem prepared for the squad. Expressing happiness for having Ganguly as the captain, Khan described him as his 'favourite' of whom he was a fan. "Sourav has been a big inspiration." "Buchanan and his trainers from Australia know their cricket," he said, adding Bengalis, who are known for their passion for soccer and cricket, should extend support to this team. "Inshallah, we'll win the cup," he said. Ganguly said he felt honoured to be part of the IPL and lead the Kolkata Knight Riders. Watching cricket in Kolkata will be a big difference with 90,000 people cramming the Eden Gardens, the flamboyant left- hander said. "We'll make Kolkata proud." Then turning to Buchanan, he said, "it is a pleasure to work with you John." The Knigh Riders' costume, designed by Manish Malhotra, was also unveiled on the occasion. It will be a mixture of black and golden, the black symbolising goddesss 'Maa Kaali' and the gold, the mark of victory, Khan said. Khan said he would also sport one of the shirts and 'help the players with water in the field when required'. Buchanan said that the IPL would go on to help Indian cricket and provide a wonderful opportunity to players to rub shoulders with quality players from all around the world. It would have long term benefits for Indian cricket, he said. Khan also revealed that a 'Knight Rider' album was on the anvil with several singers and music composers including Usha Uthup and Bappi Lahiri being involved. Ganguly, Buchanan and CAB chief Prasun Mukherjee were presented 'golden' helmets, as also four state cricketers, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Wriddhiman Saha, Sourasis Lahiri and Rohan Banerjee.
