Ronaldo: Whatever Pele Says, The Opposite Comes True Crocked Milan star Ronaldo has hit back at claims from Pele that he will never play football again, and says his comments are a blessing because whatever ‘The King’ says, the opposite always comes true. Ronaldo is set to be out of action for at least nine months after rupturing the tendon in his knee. In an interview last week, Brazil legend Pele stated that he believed Ronaldo would never return from his injury. "I don't think Ronaldo will be able to be the player he once was," Pele said. "Medicine has made huge progress, but he's also a few years older now. I would be very happy if he would be able to come back at 100%, but I'm afraid it won't go that way." Ronaldo has now hit back at the 1970 World Cup hero. "He said that I will not come back to play? I am happy that he said this,” Ronaldo told Radio Globo. “It is well known that whatever Pele forecasts, the exact opposite comes true. “However I don’t want to make too much of this. Pele is a legend and finds himself in difficult situations, having to answer questions of all kinds.” This is not the first time that Pele has been slammed for his supposed lack of understanding of the game. Former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, having been criticised by Pele in the build up to the 2002 World Cup, later hit out at the former Santos man when he returned from Korea and Japan with the trophy. "I believe that Pele knows nothing about football,” Scolari famously said. “He has done nothing as a coach and all his analysis always turn out to be wrong. “If you want to win a title, you have to listen to Pele and then do the opposite."

Torres: We Need More Creativity Miguel Torres believes that Real Madrid need to start creating more chances if they are to return to winning ways as he reflected on the defeat against Deportivo. The right back admitted that the squad was disappointed with the loss in Riazor, but analysed why he felt that Los Merengues had been unable to end their 18-year hoodoo at the stadium. "We're tired and disappointed with the result, but we're already thinking about the next match though, and that's all that matters," he said. "We just need to create more chances. We've been dominating possession but we're lacking in accuracy when finishing. Deportivo played with five defenders, which made it hard for us to penetrate the back line. We need to win our home matches and do everything possible to steal points on the road. "The coach has told us to remain calm. The league is won by the most consistent team over the course of the year. If we're on top it's because we're the most consistent. We're going to lose a game or two because other teams also play well. "All we can do now is think about our next match, work hard, and try to create more opportunities and reach the opponent's box more often. "The coach always speaks to us in the same manner. A game like last night's doesn't mean he has to say something different. He's got the same ideas now that he had at the start of the season. All we try to do is pay attention to him and the rest of the coaching staff." Torres was then asked that if things had been the same all year then did he not think that it was time for a change of some sort, but he dismissed that thought. "If we're first nothing should change. Players are recovering. Van Nistelrooy should be back this week. He's very important for us. The more possibilities we have, the better off we'll be," he continued. The defender was then asked whether he agreed with Iker Casillas after the keeper stated that he would rather be second in the table and in the Champions League quarter finals. "I would much rather be on top. I really like La Liga because it's a measure of the most consistent team all year. Not all teams can opt for the title. I'm not concerned about what other teams are doing right now," Torres said.
  4. Raúl And Guti Hold Depor Inquest Raúl and Guti held lengthy talks on the trip home from A Coruña on Saturday evening as they tried to work out why Real Madrid produced one of their worst performances of the season. In a game of few chances, Los Merengues would expect to come out on top but they were beaten by a determined Deportivo team and an inquest was held. After Raúl had stated that it was a poor performance to the media, he talked with Guti about why there was no spark throughout the side, according to AS. While their position in the league table was not greatly affected after Barcelona were held by Almería, Madrid's veterans were still concerned that performances have to improve. Guti is reported to have been stunned that he was the only player even attempting to create something from midfield, while Raúl then spoke at length about his feelings on the game. The pair were confused that Roberto Soldado was named in the starting line-up, but because of the importance of the game and not because of his performance. A silver lining for Madrid is that six of their last ten games of the season are at home and Ruud van Nistelrooy and Sergio Ramos are both set to return to the team.
