  1. The avatar story also has a lot of problematic aspects. The 'hero' of the character was for me, more unlikable than heroic. He came across as much more of a plot device than a realistic character. His actions are those of a self-serving traitor from the get go, like what a sociopath would do. If he had moral problems with Alien genocide why join the military? Most western youths have don't want to join the army for similar reasons. The franchise takes the anti-human/noble savage stance from the get-go but the real world is much more complex than this. I see that the recent film introduces the 'bad' tribes but ultimately they are not asking the hard, and ultimately more interesting questions. The humans with all their advanced technology are military idiots and bumble into the pandora and get massacred every time. Will this happen again in the 4th and 5th movie? The avatars are overpowered in combat, easily destroying hovercraft with a single explosive-tipped arrow. Jake & his wife have massacred so many humans so easily.

  5. the avatar movies appear to be variations of the story structure of 'dances with wolves' except designed to for global appeal which messes up the story. The movies are very violent but have no gore. The characters are simple enough for kids to understand but not complex enough for adults to enjoy. The avatars are directed towards kid enjoyment. the film's story is mainly aimed at holding a technological presentation optimized for imax/3d for higher margin ticket sales. The premiere example a good take on this type of movie is "The Last Samurai", which is probably the best one. This movie gives man-tears and it has a great supporting cast. IIRC it was rated R. Although today Japanese who know their history would quickly realize the film presents an westernized and super idealistic view of the samurai and not what they were historically (as imperial and corrupt). Also the trope of the white guy getting the hottest asian women is insulting in this day and age.
