Laetitia Casta
Sorry if repost but I came across this image on ebay today: I normally like seeing Laetitia on the cover of magazines but this picture makes her look wane and severe as opposed to the usual look of being voluptuous and full of vitality. I wonder if her picture was severly edited to make her look skinnier and paler. This cover is not what I consider to be one of her best.

Roberta Chirko
Hi TL,I know the site of Eva...The point is that you do not know the causes of this retreat and what happened after---anyway, thanks! Based on what I read in the entry for Michelle, one can only guess that the need for home, marriage, and family may have won out as a priority. That seems to be the common thread between Roberta and most of the models from her era and those from before. It happens with the best of them. But then again, its just a guess. With Michelle Stevens, the idea that her son would write a response in her entry is intriguing to say the least. I'm pretty sure that by viewing his mother's entry, he got a glimpse of a side to his mother he may not have been ready to see. His style of writing had an element of defensiveness to it. As for Susan Miner, who knows if the need for marriage and kids may have had a hand in her decision to leave modeling.

If you have any information about Susan Miner and Michelle Stevens you I'd be grateful.especially Michelle seems to have disappeared without a trace. I had come across Eva Voorhees' site supermodelicons.com and from what I read about Michelle Stevens, she quit modeling in a pre-planned way. Here is the link on Michelle Stevens' update: http://supermodelicons.com/michelle-stevens/2009/09/11/

Roberta Chirko
I found this about Roberta Chirko Myers: http://villagegreenpreschool.com/bio.html Roberta Chirko Myers grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago. She then traveled extensively as a fashion model and lived in Paris and New York City from 1983 till 1992. She met her future husband who introduced her to Brown County, IN., and she immediately fell in love with the landscape and the people who lived there. When she and her husband started a family they decided to put down roots in Brown County. Roberta enrolled her son in the Village Green Preschool in 2002. She found that she adored being around children and that children adored her, fondly referring to her as Miss Bert. She was offered an assistant position and accepted it gladly. Roberta's passion shows in her eagerness to help children in a playful, positive way. The 2009/2010 school year will be Roberta's fifth year with Village Green Preschool. Welcome Tyra! Roberta was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and it looks like Pittsburgh is very proud of this ...Never heard of Chicago. Oliviero "found" her in the late eighties and was crazy for her. I will try in the coming days to know more about this musician, Myers-Mayer or whatever. I loved Roberta, I think her career is over because she was essentially a model that expressed herself through the lens of a photographer.the models of the generation coming after were more complete ,could do almost all-there were some exceptions - the catwalk shows. This helps to put an end to many careers:Williams,Chirko et cetera. I'm also really puzzled by that date: 1983. It seems very strange that her career has begun so early. Thanks again for your contribution, Roberta was a very important model: in France and Italy was literally adored. I was looking around for information regarding the present whereabouts of Roberta. I figured the article's information was given by Mrs. Chirko Myers herself but I could be wrong. From what I read about Toby Myers, he had been familiar with Roberta's name and image from the 80's when he would see her on the covers of magazines, which would make sense since she did have a strong cover presence, especially American Elle. Around this time frame, Myers was a member of John Cougar Mellencamp's session band. It just happened that when John Cougar Mellencamp had met Elaine Irwin and had introduced her to his band members, that it occured to Myers to ask about Roberta. According to Elaine, she and Roberta had been roomates in New York City when they were both on the come-up and that there was still some contact between the 2 models. So accounts vary as to Roberta's story and it seems that information in second-hand as there is no direct quotes from Roberta herself. As to where she originally came from, the span of her modeling career, or whatever comes up in internet searches, the information could be right or wrong. In the case of her husband's account, I would take his word for it. But still, it was nice to know that she did something with her life that gave it some meaning beyond the smoke and mirrors that modeling is known for.

I don't think that is Tyra....it is most likely Carole LaBrie...

Paulina Porizkova
As much as I liked Paulina during HER modeling heyday, she really had a problem putting a sock in it. Her mouth pretty much did her in. She was one of the first to bite the hand that has fed her so well for so long but expecting people to pay attention to her. She never seemed to understand that while she may be entitled to an opinion about aging, beauty, and other women in general; Paulina wasn't really one to talk. She never took responsibility for her opinions as to why women go under the knife in a society that still places a premium on looks, to which SHE was a beneficiary. For her to criticize how other people present themselves would be easy when everyone around you is telling you how beautiful you are. As for her opinions on other models, at least they put an effort into what they are doing. Naomi may be unpleasant at times, but damn it the woman still represents herself well in an industry notorious for showing you the door at 25. Paulina just lucked out on looks but really did nothing worthy of herself. Her acting is mediocre, her modeling legacy while admirable, is nothing compared to Linda, Christy, Naomi, or even Janice. Tyra had more going for her than Paulina ever did. Tyra may be annoying when faced with the camera but she has enough brains and business savvy to know how to market herself to something more profitable. Paulina may think that she has a unique position to criticize but when you look at what she has and what those women have, Paulina is very small in comparison. I detect bitter envy in her statements. Paulina, if you ever for some reason read this....shut the hell up and deal with the fact that it was YOU who finally did yourself in. You had it easy compared to the others who paid serious dues, something you never had. Linda has alot more substance career wise than you ever did or will. Same with Naomi, Tyra, and yes even Janice....

Kiara Kabukuru
Here is the (reposted) cover from German Vogue's October 1997 issue: Uploaded with ImageShack.us For some reason that is beyond me, this particular issue often lists the cover model as Naomi Campbell. This really pisses me off :anger: !!!! Why is it that everytime a black model is on the cover of any edition of Vogue, the assumption is that the cover is Naomi's. I even read a post on The Fashion Spot about how Kiara was a one-trick-pony. Oh really? Kiara managed to get 3 Vogue covers under her belt in addition to a couple of other big deal covers. While Kiara's Vogue cover tally will never compete with Naomi, Kara Young, or Liya Kebede, I still consider her a great model just on the strength of those Vogue covers. When will those people at The Fashion Spot stop looking at Naomi as the last word on black models and how they get Vogue covers. There are many other models of African, African-American, and African-European descent (Kiara having Angolan ancestry) who deserved more Vogue covers than they got. Even Veronica Webb, whom I feel was an under-appreciated model got only one Vogue cover. Other notable Black models who got only one Vogue cover to show for their hard work includes Karen Alexander, Louise Vyent, Sheila Johnson, and Stephanie Roberts. It's a damn shame really, I hope that the nastalgia in using models from the mid 1980's and the 1990's will include Kiara . She is not a one-trick-pony but a workhorse who should be given alot more oppurtunities to work more.

Hello there. I was wondering if there was a thread on her. It seems that there is a nostalgia for models from the 1980's through the late 1990's. It seemed that this beauty was forgotten. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Anyone else got anything on her. Since there doesn't seem to be a substantial thread about Robyn, any info is considered precious. Pics would also be sweet!

Oh...by the way, regarding the Elle cover I had posted, does anyone know the name of the redhead above Claudia Schiffer? She seems familiar but I just can't seem to remember her name. Please help !

You're welcome ladies. It is always nice to see that the legendary black supermodels have at least one Vogue cover. It's a shame really, they deserve(d) (and still do) more covers from Vogue in general. This is another favorite cover of mine from Miss Webb: ...and who could forget this legendary cover from Elle:
