Khedira: Only titles count at Madrid Real Madrid anchorman Sami Khedira knows that his time with the Spanish giants will be judged on the trophies he has won. The German has been a firm favourite of new gaffer Jose Mourinho ever since his transfer from German outfit Stuttgart in the summer. In an interview with bwin.com, Khedira has acknowledged that the sheer stature and aura of the nine time European kings mean that winning silverware at the club is imperative. He stated: "It is always dangerous to believe that you have got it all, and you have reached the highest level in your career. If you stop working on your personal development and improving your game, then you are finished. But now, things are going well for me. "Although we have not won anything, we have started the season well in the league and in the Champions League, as well as the Copa Del Rey. At the end of the day, what counts at Real Madrid are titles, I am aware of this and we work every day at our long-term goal - winning as many titles as possible." Despite having already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Khedira insists that their home clash to Auxerre on Wednesday is not a write-off. He added: "I know from the first match that they are a team who are strong on the counter. We must be concentrated to the maximum, and make sure that we do not give them opportunities." Madrid are two points behind leaders Barcelona in the league.

One step shy of making Champions League history By defeating Auxerre, Real Madrid would earn five victories and one draw in the competition, a first by any side since there is a group stage Laura Navas / Translation by Michael J. O'Donnell Real Madrid have already reached the Last 16 of the Champions League as group leaders, but by defeating Auxerre on Wednesday they could become the first team to earn five victories and one draw since the group stage was created. If they manage to concede no goals they would break their own record by having conceded just two in the group stage. Cristiano Ronaldo also has a chance of becoming the top scorer in Group G; Ibrahimovic currently tops the ranking with one more strike than the Portuguese forward. Real Madrid have won six, drawn three and lost one of all their games against French sides in the Champions League. Jose Mourinho has earned seven victories against French teams and only one defeat. Real Madrid have also won all of their games at the Santiago Bernabeu this season in every championship. By defeating Auxerre, the team would earn its third straight home victory in the Champions League. Mourinho satisfied by job done Coach Jose Mourinho felt it was mission accomplished for Real Madrid after a much-needed victory over Valencia. Looking to bounce back from their humiliating 5-0 mauling at the hands of bitter rivals Barcelona on Monday, Madrid started off slowly against fifth-placed Valencia and only pulled away in the final 25 minutes. The dismissal of Valencia midfielder David Albelda gave Madrid the numerical advantage and Cristiano Ronaldo ensured it was not wasted, scoring in the 73rd and 87th minutes to secure a 2-0 win. It may not have been the most fluid or entertaining of performances from Madrid, but for Mourinho the key was getting the three points. "The most important thing was to win a difficult game after the bad result of Monday," said Mourinho, who opted to start with a more defensive line-up than usual with Lassana Diarra joining Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira in midfield. "We lacked self-confidence and I didn't want us to suffer. If we had conceded a goal it could have destroyed what self-confidence the team had left and that's why I played with a stronger central midfield. "We were never scared about losing. We've won 11 of our 14 games so far, and all of our home games. We've also won four of our five Champions League clashes." He added: "It wasn't the day to have a great game, nor score lots of goals, the only thing that mattered was winning. "It was important to leave a different impression at home." Madrid director general Jorge Valdano, whose club remain two points behind leaders Barca at the summit, added: "This result was especially important. "We received a blow on Monday and if we hadn't won here we would have run the risk of falling adrift in the title fight. "We had to wait for the win, but it arrived in the end and it could have been even bigger. "We want to thank the crowd for the support it always gives us and the team for their efforts against a great side that have made things very difficult for us."- Jose Mourinho

- Kaká
Kaka has just begun a new stage in his recovery process. Having successfully completed the first stage consisting of physiotherapy, pool and gym work, the Brazilian midfielder is now working outdoors to test the stability of his knee and initiate the muscle strengthening process. Under the watchful eye of Real Madrid’s medical services and fitness trainer Carlos Lalin, Kaka has begun proprioception work and strength and speed training with the goal of building up stamina and proceeding to the next stage of his recovery. He did not feel any discomfort while performing turning, speed and stamina drills. Kaka was congratulated by several or his teammates and coaches, who know the player is one step closer to returning to the field of play. - Caroline Celico
