So I had seen a pendant today and thought that it would make a pretty kick ass knot design. It was pretty simple as it was but something about it caught my eye. I sketched it first.
Sorry the pics suck, they are small and my phone doesn't focus well. So I jotted down an idea of how to draw it out differently. I wasn't impressed with my first attempt so I didn't persue it farther.
The next one showed some promise and the cross-overs worked, which always helps with clutter. Still wasn't perfect and the proportions were off.
A quick flip through some reference material and I found an "A" from the book of Kells that seemed to leap off the page for this little thing. I changed it a bit and incorporated it to see how it worked.
Enjoy, I did. It was a productive 90 minutes I think.
I liked how it was coming together so I redrew it, cleaned it up a bit and started to thicken the lines. It definitely needs double thick lines.
I was pleased at it to that point so I decided it would look much better if I inked it. 2 problems, the paper sucks and I'm fresh out of Higgins Black. Crap. The only felt pens I had were caligraphy pens and they just won't do. Next best thing, a colored, fine tip sharpie. Even that was WAY to fat. It's all I have until I can transfer it over to better paper and pick up some more actual ink. Either way here's the final sketch.
