WHO better to kick off the celebrations for London's fourth Russian Winter Festival than the nation's own UK-based uber-model, Natalia Vodianova? The tireless mum-of-three didn't hold back on festive spirit yesterday as she unveiled five giant Matryoshka, or Russian nesting dolls, on the banks of the Thames in preparation for the event. Dressed in a casual cream sweater and Chanel tweed jacket, she smiled for photos along with James Bidwell, chief executive of Visit London, and former national football team captain Alexey Smertin as a Russian children's choir sang traditional New Year songs. The Russian Winter Festival - which boasts market stalls selling traditional crafts and food, theatrical performances and live sets by top Russian artists such as Alisa and Fabrika - will take place in Trafalgar Square this Sunday, January 13, between 12pm and 7.30pm. NATALIA VODIANOVA has become the face of one of the biggest fashion comebacks of 2008: the Diane Von Furstenberg campaign. Having not advertised for a matter of decades, the current CFDA president is preparing to burst back onto the scene with a glitter-spangled series of images, which were shot by close friend Francois-Marie Banier in New York last week. The gravitas of the occasion has not been lost on Vodianova, who has recently been singing the praises of her newest employer. "Diane is an amazing and gracious woman," the Russian supermodel has commented to the press. "She's done a lot for American fashion, and she's just such a style icon.
