Well in the examples you give and the Penny Lane and Gerard Butler one there is (more than) a generation of years between the two people.

Compared to that, ten years is not that much.

It's amazing that her campaign might be yanked just because of her father's Palestinian heritage? That's crazy. It would make sense if she personally had made hurtful statements but that is not the case. So it's completely about her own background.

Don't really get the James Gunn hate myself.

His Guardians trilogy is easily the best three movie arc out of all of the MCU trilogies.

And I also really liked his Suicide Squad movie.

So I am going to reserve judgement for his Superman until after I see it.
