That also means we’re skipping some of our favorite ways to stay active. The weekly gym class that feels like a second family, the busy park on a sunny day, and our favorite weekend workout with friends are all off limits for now. As we try and acclimate to these changes, we’re taking advice from those who know best. Who better to show us their at home workout routine than our #lovelulus babe with (seriously) the most rockin’ bod- model Anna Herrin! She has worked with us for years and is definitely a part of the Lulus family. We sat down (at a distance) with Anna to get her secrets on wellness during challenging times. Don’t miss her killer total body workout featuring traditional yoga as well as strengthening exercises meant to center you, attract love and positivity, and kick negative vibes to the curb! Read on for a little Q&A and find her workout at the end of the post! Anna! How are you holding up? We miss you! Hi!! I miss my Lulus family so much! It’s been way too long since our last photoshoot karaoke session! I’m doing alright. I’ve been quarantining with my family so it’s been really nice to spend time with them, but I’m not gonna lie, I miss working! It’s definitely been a good reminder to never take anything for granted. It’s been hard to turn off my anxiety about the state of the world, but I’ve just been really trying to use the time to workout, eat healthy, and catchup with old friends. House party happy hours have been a highlight. Your sunny disposition and social presence is honestly #goals. Having a PMA seems to be a top priority for you. What are you doing lately to keep yourself feeling normal and in good spirits? I get asked a lot about how I am so positive all the time and first let me say, it is a choice, and not always an easy or natural one! I totally wake up with bad days but I really try and choose happiness over any other feeling. I do this by looking at whatever situation I’m in and finding the positive aspects of it rather than looking for what’s wrong. So currently, I’m not working and I’m going through some other personal stressors. Rather than focus on the negative, I’m channeling my thoughts towards what is good about the situation. I get to spend time with my family, I have my health, I have delicious food to eat, and I get a break that I never could have dreamed of. I really think your mental attitude is a complete choice. This may be a little more than you asked for but our brains are predisposed to look for what’s wrong in a situation as a mechanism in our fight or flight response. Interesting! Tell us more. Our brains are wired to protect us by looking for what’s wrong. Since we’re no longer in life threatening situations, or need to worry if a lion is around the next corner, this way of thinking is a little outdated. In a way, our brains haven’t caught up with our development as a species, we don’t always need to look for what’s wrong, we can relax and enjoy what is right. It takes work to overpower your brains natural way of thinking, but it’s so worth it! All the people I know with the most positive outlooks have worked for them. I think we get caught in a habit of looking for the negative so I recommend actively changing that habit like you would anything else. A positive outlook is all about your perspective. It may sound silly, but for me, gratitude always leads to joy. That was a mouth full but it’s something that has truly changed my life. What self care routine is working for you right now? I am all about resting right now! I’m trying to get to bed early and for the first time in years I’m not setting an alarm in the morning, I’m letting my body tell me what it needs. I stayed in bed until 4 pm the other day. I would usually beat myself up for it, but instead I just let myself fulllly enjoy it. Also, no makeup! My skin is loving the break, so I’ve just been trying to moisturize and mask as much as I want. How did you get into fitness? What kind of background do you have? My mom has been a yoga teacher my whole life so I’ve been playing with yoga poses since I was a little kid. I did my first 200 hour yoga teacher training over a month in Kauai and most recently did my Yoga Barre teacher training with Nancy Norby in Bali. Unfortunately, I don’t get to teach regularly because my work schedule is so crazy, but getting to do this class was a great reminder of how much I love to share what I have learned over the years. More classes to come! When you aren’t staying home, what are some of your favorite ways to stay fit? I workout ALL the time! I learned early on that I love eating, so to keep up with my snacking, I had to start exercising. At first I hated it but I can honestly say I’ve grown to love the feeling of moving my body. It took some time but finding workouts that I enjoyed made such a difference. I do hot yoga, I take barre classes, I go to Pilates, and throw in some cardio when I’m feeling crazy. Some of my favorite places to workout are Hot8yoga, Pure Barre, Barry’s Bootcamp, and Club Pilates. My workout motto is always “something is better than nothing.” Now that we are staying home, how have you updated your fitness routine to work for you? I was so nervous at first when all of the studios closed. I have never been someone to self motivate or workout from home, but I just told myself I would have to figure it out, and it’s actually been going pretty well. I made a rule with myself that I would get in at least an hour of physical activity a day. It could be a long walk, an online workout class, or just a yoga flow on my own, but I knew it was important to make a pact with myself. I’ve noticed that when I sign up for a zoom class it helps me stay focused because I know the teachers watching me-I can’t just sit down and play on my phone and watch them workout. It’s actually been fun to realize that I don’t always need to be in a physical studio to be motivated. I think even when the quarantine is over I’ll keep doing online classes, especially when I travel. Tell us a little about this workout. I wanted to put a workout together that would be fun to do at anytime of day, and with any music. I recommend putting on your favorite upbeat playlist for the morning, and a more soothing playlist for the evening. I’ve taken yoga teacher trainings, and barre teacher trainings, so I wanted to make a workout that incorporated some stretch, some physical work, and some mental work. I try and approach my workouts from a positive place, and let them be fun rather than a chore. I wanted this workout to feel good for any body at any fitness level, and a workout you could do anywhere with very little equipment. If you don’t have weights or a mat, no problem-this is a no excuse workout! It’s a collection of my favorite workouts from yoga, barre, Pilates, and meditation. I had a total crush on Ryan Phillipe from Cruel Intentions! Quarantine anthem song? I’ve been listening to the song “Old Thing Back”, by Matomas and Notorious B.I.G on repeat. It puts me in such a good mood and it’s fun to workout to! Quarantine snack of choice? A lot of popcorn! I’m trying to be good! Best beauty tip you’ve learned from modeling? Good skin is better than good makeup! I try and take my makeup off as soon as I get home from work. If you weren’t a model what would be your day job? I studied childhood development in college, I always thought I would be an elementary school teacher. Make sure to follow Anna on Instagram!
