Well, IMO there are still quite candidates when it comes to winning WC. Before the WC06, rarely someone was picking France over Brasil, or England, and even though I was one of them, France was only my 4th pick. I'm sure that there'll be 7-8 teams in WC2010 as well, that may be counted as favourites, when the time comes. And I won't exactly call Italy a team who struggles in qualification rounds. Last year they struggled, only because they failed to defeat France (which is normal), and France lost twice to Scotland. At the end, they took care of that, by defeating Scotland twice. Actually Brasil may be the team to compare with France for struggling in the groups. Maybe Netherlands as well. But France has a clear lead in this departament, and Domenech is the only one to blame. That being said, France's success on WC06 depends only on their great roster. IMO, even w/out the legends like Zidane, Thuram, or Vieira, France still has the best players to make a complete team, which'll make them a threat in every tournament they'll participate. I feel you when you say that there is something wrong with Domenech "coaching" a team to the WC final, but can't we say the same for Avram Grant "coaching" a team to CL final. IMO Domenech is a coaching joke, but I'd still take him over Grant, any day. And even names like Rijkaard (who is better than Domenech), A.Ferguson (who is better than Rijkaard), or C.Anchelotti (better than Ferguson) are not great coaches in my book, even though they have hardwareful coaching careers. If the point is the performances in domestic, and champions versus the performances in World Cup, than I definitely agree with you. However what I tried to say was that if two players from two different teams, and different nationalities play nearly about the same during the course of the season/year/whatever, and one of them ends up winning Domestic Tilte, and CL, and the other wins the WC, I'd rate the second player higher than the first. And I enjoy watching Champions League a lot, too, maybe it's the most fun out of them all, but in my honest opinion, Luck is much more of an indicator in UCL, than it is in WC, or especially in domestic leagues. In Champions League you have no luxury of avoiding the booking of key players, to save them for the latter games (unlike in Domestic Leagues), and injuries have much more impact than in the World Cup, cause it's played in a shorter period, or in domestic League where you won't end up out of the copetition the next day. Just my thoughts Last year it was so, and I don't think it was that bad. We had Valencia - Real M., and Juventus - Milan finals in the past and it was Premier League's turn. If I'd see another ManU - Chelsea final maybe it would become boring than, but an Arsenal - Liverpool final is welcome to me. And I won't agree with you about CL becoming the Premier League (or any league for that matter), until I'll see like three straight titles from teams of the same country, which is really hard to believe considering lately no league has took back2back titles of UCL.

You mean never? In general, maybe, but Ramos is a player who is good (actually, really good) in the air balls which is one of the main tasks of CBs. Plus WBs shall not lose their way in defense, and completely concentrate in offense, which is a common thing when it comes to Ramos. Well, he is actuaaly really good at making the last touches in the box, as can be seen at his goals that came from Corner Kicks. And I can easily bet that Ronaldo as CF = 15 penalties per season. :| Hey, I like Kuyt! But yeah, his games against 'pool weren't any sort of impressive. However how you liked him against C.Ronaldo on Wednsday? He was quite good both ends of the field. Plus he scored an amazing goal, which got outshined by Elano's latter goal. Plus Kaka' got the best of Ronaldo in another of the direct meetings. You. . . Lampard . . . Fat. . . Frank . . . . . . OMG, you giving a shout to Lampard. My eyes are burning. Oops, may bad. For a sec I forgot that we were talking about Golden Ball, and I just mentioned which keepers I like the most. But no, definitely not this year. Well, after this week, probably yeah. However how much a goal is worth shall depend in lots of criterias. Sure the more you score the better, but if you are leading 4-0 against Stoke City, making it 5-0 in Loss Time. . . is that really something that shall effect the POTY awards?

One more thing I shall ass. This week was great for my teams. Real Madrid-Juventus, and Arsenal-Manshester United games were awesome, as both Real and United got bitch - wait for it . . . slapped . Tottenham is absolutely on a roll. When they hired Redknapp, I thought that they made it with perfect timing. They were going to beat Bolton anyway, while no one won't get at Redknapp if he fails against Arsenal, Liverpool, and M. City. IMO 2 points would have been really good in the last 3 games. Instead they got 7. :| Plus Bent scored 5 times in less than 72 hours. :| x2 And what do you guys think of Maradona becoming the new coach of Argentinian National Team. IMO thats one of the dumbest moves ever in football history. Now that Argentina (IMO) has the best squad among all the nations, and Brasil struggles a lot, Maradona is really a horrible gamble. He has zero experience as a coach, and even from his interviews you can get that he is way too untalented to become a coach (like most of other great players). This change is actually going to represent a first for me. I started to watch football(as in continuously) in 95-96 season. After that there have been 3 World Cups, and in all of them I used to yay for Argentina. But if Maradona is their coach, I'd like to see them fail.

We beat them but now I fear the backlash at Anfield Yes, and you avoid Portsmouth aswell. I guess Gerrard has decided to care of bussiness all by himself, until Torres comes back. Now if only they can avoid the Spurs, which likely they will, they are 95% the Winter champs. just like this I am ninja Errmmmm,. . . Nothing that I can't handle Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, . . . Jealous pig? How about football genius! :anger: Seriously, with the current form of Walcott, and Joe Cole, it'd be offense to invite Beckham to the National team, while he doesn't play the game on the top level. And I'm a Beckham fan as well, I'd place him in starting England line up, but he's gotta now, that he's not unreplaceable. Besides You shall be thankfull. Because of Capello, you'll be able to watch Beckham for a lot more.

First of all, did I really have to open my big mouth? Valencia immediately responded with losing 2 points against Recreativo, and now Arsenal tied against Spurs. I guess it's time for me to use Eds pessimism tactics. <_< Anyway . . . Well, they have a solid defense, the best in La Liga actually. Not that their backline is great, but their midfield helps them a lot, and they don't allow lots of occasions to their opponents (it was so, even in this weeks 4-4 draw with A.Madrid). And they always risk you somehow. Even against Man.U, in a game that they didn't look so strong, they were the side who got closer to the W. They hit the post from like 6 meters, while the best that Man.U was able to do, was trying to shoot from the distance. Out of the big teams, they are the team, that changed the least from last season, and last seasons games against them were nightmares to me. Pires, Nihat & Rossi are great at moving the ball in the dangerous area, which is exactly what threatens us the most (Braca's frontline may be better, but they are not really pass orientated). Last year in El Madrigal they defeated us 3-0, while having 4 posts, and numerous missed oppurtunities. I'm a big fan of Valencia for years now, and except of 04-05 season, I continously have followed their games, and that game was by far the most desperate I have ever seen them. Now, I don't want to sound all pesimist, actually I'm pretty optimist about this years games (we just can't be that bad, last year there was really something going on with the team), and hopefully we'll get like 4 or 6 points from direct games, but still, if I'd be given a wild card, to win a game w/out playing it, I'd use it against Villreal. I like Renan actually, but I'm one (of the few I guess) that actually likes Hildebrand better. There were games last season that I had watched the whole game, and Timo was the reason we didn't get routed, but when watching the short version of the games, or just goals, it usually seemed like he was the only reason we were losing those games, as to be honest he allowed some type of goals. I think our defense is our weak point, but not our Keepers. I have faith in both Timo & Renan. As of our offense, I think on paper, we've got 5 world class offensive players (Villa, Moriantes, Silva, Vicente, and Jouaqin). If we have 4, or at least 3 of them on the field (sure with them being like 80%), I don't think we'll have hard time to score. Especially if Silva & Villa are both playing, I'd say we'll have only like 2 games, that we won't be able to score. Our defense on the other hand,. . . Well, Maybe we shall convince Villa, that there's a spell that curses the argentinian players who play for Valencia, and that his career will have a falldown after he leaves the team. *genius* Come to think about it,. . . Ortega . . . Claudio Lopez . . . Aimar . . . :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| OMG :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :|

I know some may hate it, but honestly I love the eNe-effect that I bring to the post size of this thread. :blueeyedbaby: OK, where were we?. . . The Champions league action of this week turned out to be an unexpected GOALeada. Especially in tuesdays games there was no limit of scoring. Except of Porto-D.Kiyw match, all the games ended with 3 or more goals. Of course the main game of the day was Juventus - Real Madrid, and Juve took care of business. (BTW, I wish Ange was around). Del Piero scored an amazing goal, leaving Casillas with no other option but watching the ball curling, till it ended up at the bottom of the net. Also, one of the best goals of the day was Alievs freekick that gave the victory to Dinamo Kiyw over Porto. Villareal won 6:3, and Lyon 3:5 were easy games on paper, but they actually had to make comebacks in order to win. Arsenal took care of Fenerbahçe (2:5), with Fabregas opening the game with two mesmerizing assists on two straight possesions, and they never looked back after that. In my own opinion about the greatest passers ever, Rui Costa used to be #1 by a landscape, but with the way he is playing, Fabregas has already made it to #2, and keeps forcing the top spot. Barcelona tied the record for the best visitor team victory, winning 0:5 against Basel. Bayern won 3:0 against Fiorentina, and that was actually the best game so far. Fiorentina had lots of oppurtunities, but luck and selfishness was their opponent during the game. While speaking of this game, and mixing it with Atletico-Liverpool, and ManU-Celtic games, the winger referees completely failed during these games. Goals of Klose, R.Keane, and both goals of Berbatov were offsides, while clear goals of Rooney, Bennayoun, and Agüero (he was on side, for more than a meter) were canceled for off side positioning. Another crazy moment on UCL, was the second goal of Panathinaikos, where in their first attempt, Werders Mesut Özil standing next to the post made an amazing save to the ball that was on the line, and had already passed the keeper. However, the ball still ended up in the net, on the second attempt. Anyway, back with some news. Maybe you all know, but David Beckham will be playing for AC Milan in the second half of the season. According to a local news channel there is no odd left for the temporary loan. And the best news for Arsenal fans, is that Eduardos ankles healing has quite progressed. He is expected to make a comeback in early December, which is great news considerind the injury he had.

Instead, I think Barca is the hardest opponent out of them all on the championship run. Messi, Henry (speaking of whom, did you see his goals against Atletico and Tunisia? ), and especially Eto'o really started great, and as if that wasn't enough, my man Hleb is back. But I guess that's nothing that D.Villa can't handle, cause when it comes to direct meetings, we'll still manage to beat them somehow, at least in Mestalla. Actually, as of direct games, I'm scared to death from Villareal. Last year they had double 3:0 victories, with lots of missed opportunities against us. Hopefully this year it will be a different story. However the fact remains that they are playing w/out their best player of last season Nihat. This team is still an unopened box. I don't like Sevilla, Real, and Atletico a lot this season, especially compared to last season. Real plays a little crappy, but you gotta keep an eye on them, cause they always end up winning the games somehow. They have lots of players who can change the destiny of some crucial games all by themselves, *makes sure SympathysSilhouette is not around* But I'm pretty optimist about the direct games with them. If Atletico Madrid fails to win this week against Villareal (which is more than likely considering they'll play in ElMadrigal), they definitely won't be able to make it to the top4. I guess they'll throw a towel a little too early. Sevilla plays great at the moment, but there are still lots of question marks about them. They lost two of my favourite players to Barca, and Keita was the one who was cutting opponent attacks, and he is a great scorer for his position as well. And as long as Navas started great, I don't think he can cover the whole effect that Daniel Alves was bringing to the right wing. And now with Kanoute out for three weeks, I hope they'll take a hit somewhere, somehow. I hope that too, cause w/out him, we are a medicore team. However, the odds are sucky, cause the better he'll play, the more they'll offer, and with the way he currently plays I expect an unrefuseable offer. And he is my top pick out of any "player" at the moment. He is amazing with the Spanish national team, always stepping up when it counts, and continously helping the others during the game, even in games that he doesn't score. Manchester City will make lots of signings the next season, in oreder to becaome the most powerful team of the Premier League. It seems like they have an eye at the best players of all my teams (Buffon, Cesc, Villa, and Benzema). And while I really hope that Villa will stay, I think that Villa-Benzema duo would be awesome to watch. BTW, speaking of M.City there is a rumor that they'll sign Ronaldo (R9) in January. If he gets back in action, this means City is automatically my 2nd favorite team in the Premier League. But I guess he'll need to lose some serious weight, in order to still be able to play on top level. We'll see. Since when not getting 18 points is group stages counts as choking? :anger: The only game that I'd count as choking is the game against Stoke, and every other team actually had a similar or worse choking already. If they avoid Chelsea this week, they are the #1 candidate to win the title. w/o Torres I'd say the draw is Liverpools gain. oh, and BTW. . . Why would you think I'm Swedish? Why? Because when I first started to come to the sports threads, it was saying so on your personal info. Seriously, you are from Sweden right? If you are not from Sweden, than tell me where are you from! just like this You know I'm just kiddin dude.

Sunderland fan huh? You guys are doing really great this season. There was also another shot by Cisse where the balll hit the post. You guys really deserved to get 3 points this week. But I guess you can count this out for the 2 points you stole from us *proud arsenal fan* j/k BTW. Sunderland is really one of my favorite teams to watch this season. It's nice to see new posters in football thread. I sure am It's feels good to see you guys Valencia will probably get Silva right at the time. They'll play Sevilla on Nov.23, and they'll meet in order Barca, Espanyol, Real M, Atletico M, and Villareal in late December, early January. I'd say the fixture is on their advantage, especially considering that they'll host Sevilla, Barca, and Real in the second half of the season. Hopefully they'll repeat the succsess of 2004, when they had won both LaLiga, and Uefa. Cause it looks like after this season, Villa will probably leave for M.City. Anyway, Richardsons freekick was amazing, too bad the goal was annuled. Even though the foul was obvious, the ball was too high to hit the wall. I don't get why teams are putting their own players on the wall, when they are going to shoot it directly(in Richardsons goal, they didn't even fake a pass). And don't count on Liverpool choking. This year they defeated ManU.

Hey peeps Have any of you guys watched the Fulam-Sunderland, and/or Stoke-Tottenham games this week? There were amazing moments, where the ball hit the post THREE times, in Richardsons free-kick, and the last minute penalty of Stoke. Anyway, Arsenal, and especially Liverpool are really doing great coming back from first half deficits this season. And Chelsea is doing really great on crushing their opponents, after they take the lead. I was expecting a draw for them this week against M'boro. FT: 0-5 :| In Spain, the Madrid derby was an amazing game to watch, and at the end there was a little course of what a defender SHOULDN'T DO in the last minute of the game. Barca is on roll, winning 7th straight game in LaLiga & UCL combined. Appearently they're gonna make Messi the highest payed Barcelona player ever. But the most important thing is Valencia kicks ass!!! Right Ed? In Italy, Juve keeps on craping on my title hopes. 4th straight game that we can't win, and yet to score more than once in a Serie A game. On the other hand the game of the week was Roma-Inter, and it was supposed to be a close game. But then a magician said "IBRA CADABRRA" , and the game turned into a blowout W for Inter. And the best news is, Ronaldinho is really getting back, and maybe as the season proceeds he'll become as good (if not better) of a player as he was in Barca. In UCL there are great games this week, headed by the infamous Juventus vs. Real Madrid Also Atletico-Liverpool, and Bayern-Fiorentina were supposed to be the games where players (such as Torres, Toni, Luis Garcia) will play against their former teams, but appearently Toni(maybe) and Torres(certainly) will miss the games. Honestly, there is nothing that I'd want more on wednsday action, than a Luis Garcia show. Sorry 'pool fans. But it turns out, that the odds of him becoming the player he used to be are really sucky. Anyway, when the season started I thought that Chelsea vs. Roma would be one of the best match-ups in the group stages, but the way things look right know, it'll be an easy Chelsea victory. One last thing. Manchester Uniteds UCL record vs. Celtic was really poor when both teams played each other in UCL'07. Hopefully Nakamura has one more surprise left.
