she's stunning, she's captivating, she's got SUPERMODEL written all over her. i think she's a game-changer; like Daria or Gemma or Gisele. BUT -- she's also just waaayyy too thin. sometimes she literally looks skeletal. if she just put on 10-15lbs, she'd have one of the best bodies in the industry. cause she's very fit and long and lean - she could be such a force.

KK 10!!

that's a beautiful pic! KK needs a cosmetic contract!! i can't believe she's never had one.
-
is that VS pic a new one?!
-
she had a very tiny appearance. the episode itself was absolutely hilarious. basically - Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski were trying to get this lonely crazy billionaire to fall in love with them before the "hot bitches" get to him first. obviously, KK was the leader of the hot bitches. lol. she gets the billionaire in the end and she has exactly one line. looks great though! and she gets named dropped by Tina Fey.
-
well i think KK loves Brazil, too! so hopefully she gets her butt down there and makes some money from some big brazilian brands!
-
ok i breathe a sigh of relief upon seeing scans of the magazine itself, which definitely has some cool photographs in it and isn't entirely basic catalogue shots. i think there are some truly beautiful pics.

OMG the photography SUCKS. this James Macari guy is TERRIBLE. the pictures have zero creativity to them. he's working with incredibly beautiful women with astonishing bodies and every pic looks like something out of a cheap swimsuit catalogue. where's the photography??! SO cheap and lazy it's unbelievable. the positives -- Kate Upton is going to be the biggest star SI has had since Marisa Miller. i guarantee it. american men are obsessed with breasts, and clearly she's rocking some MAJOR CLEAVAGE. lol. and she's tanned and blonde and really beautiful. i've never seen her interviewed, but if she's clever and has a great personality, she can have a very big career. Adaora is spectacular. what an incredible face and body. she's everything this magazine could dream of. i think the sky is the limit for this girl. i hope she's got great representation that try and get her into other formats, because as a black woman, she's got (sadly) a limited amount of available work, so the competition is fierce. but this girl is an absolute discovery! i am loving her.
-
here's what i'll say: SI has really struck a goldmine with this Kate Upton girl. she's hitting all the right notes with the guys and i predict that this will be a MASSIVE selling issue for them. and that she'll be a huge star because of it. i hope she's ready to start expanding her brand.

LOVING the hair like that!! it's great!!! the dress - not so much. LOL. it'd be better if it were tight and without that horrific great midsection.

lancelot --- you realize you just quoted someone from FIVE YEARS AGO! hahaha. that's crazy!

OMG that picture is BREATHTAKING!! i can't believe we don't have the full editorial yet! but wow to that pic!! thanks for posting!
-
definitely definitely hope Anne V gets the cover! she's a successful model outside of SI and she's been working for years. cannot believe this is her 8th CONSECUTIVE TIME being in this issue. that's quite an achievement. she deserves the cover! and she'd make a great one, as well, i'm sure!

you know -- it just dawned on me. there are how many different models in VOGUE Italia every month, in how many different editorials, month after month. and it's really not very often that there are candids of "such and such shooting for Vogue Italia". KK's a supermodel. they better give her the cover!

i think we're underestimating the average male. every thing in american popular culture has been dumbed down so as to be understandable by the lowest common denominator. but people are much much more clever and sophisticated in their tastes than we give them credit for. i sincerely believe that! when it comes to women - man have always fancied breasts and hips and more recently booty. something fleshy to grab onto. cause it makes us think about sex. but that's it! when it comes to face? as long as she's got pretty eyes and a sexy mouth and some charisma that's all that matters. Angelina Jolie is probably the most universally accepted sex symbol since Marilyn Monroe (and, yes, i just made that statement). there's nothing conventional about her appearance. men loooooved Sigourney Weaver when the Alien movies first came out. she was a massive sex symbol. and certainly nowhere near conventional. look at Bridget Bardot - one of the most iconic of all beauties. how many times has Lara Stone been styled to bear an uncanny resemblance? countless. and Daria's beauty has a commercial appeal with men. why? because she has a great body. and pretty eyes. and sexy hair. and she can pose in a way that makes men think of sex. that's all that's required, imo. i'm not trying to argue against you. because - obviously - a girl has to be 'pretty' and 'hot' to be in the SI issue. that's why i'm saying - you know - don't include some random odd looking fashion darling. but if Daria Werbowy and Lara Stone did the SI issue, and they were in a gorgeous segment, shot by an artistic fashion photographer. flaunting their long, lithe bodies in tiny bikinis, it would garner a LOT more attention and credibility than anything Julie Henderson, Jessica Gomes or any of the rest of those girls could muster. SI: TIME FOR A CHANGE.

my expectations are very low. the SI Swimsuit Issue has lost all creativity and impact over the past 10 years. i miss the heyday of the 1980s and mid-late 1990s when this issue was a MAJOR thing for a model's career. now, unless she gets the cover - it's really not a big deal. which is why, i presume, many of the bigger VS girls have opted to not do the shoot. I'm certain that both Ale and Adriana have been approached to do SI, but with no guarantee of a cover, they chose not to. i think for SI to come back as a real measure of influence on a model's career and also as a big success - they need to re-conceptualize the entire thing. first of all: get rid of the same old photographers that they've been using for years. yes, Ioss Jr. has been incredible for them, but his time is over. he's not bringing anything new that we haven't seen a hundred million times already. same with the rest of them. they should turn to fashion photographers that are known for having a great sensual eye - like Bruce Weber or Mariano Vivanco or Mert&Marcus, etc. they should also get back to the dramatic location shoots. big incredible photography, where the setting is just as important as the model. so much of the recent years just looked like a catalogue shoot. it's boring and after a while, the pics become entirely redundant. ALSO - they need to change up the models. obviously whomever is responsible for casting has lost their touch. and they need to go. NEED. TO. GO. for every star like Marisa Miller or Bar Rafaeli, they hire 20 girls who are forgettable and never manage to have any public response outside of ONE issue of ONE magazine ONCE per year. i'm not saying they should hire a bunch of rail-thin high fashion models. that wouldn't work. but there are plenty of working models who have fantastic bodies and who also have big careers. that way, it becomes a mutually beneficial endeavour. SI gets more press and attention and because SI has gained back some credibility and influence, the model gets a ton more exposure as well. the biggest SI stars of all time also had pretty successful careers outside of SI, enabling them to develop their brand and in turn provide SI with major impact when they'd pose for the swimsuit issue. there are lots of options: Joan, Constance, Lara, Daria, Eniko, Arlenis, Bianca, Emanuela, etc etc. and finally - i'm not sure of the situation between VS and SI as far as contracts go, but i think that SI has to not see itself as being in competition with VS, and vice versa. they should look to Tyra and Heidi as examples that demonstrate that when you have models with great potential doing BOTH of these mass-market commercial ventures, they can become genuine superstars. Candice, Doutzen, Miranda, Adriana and Alessandra all need to be doing SI. it's entirely absurd that they're not. and if all of the other cards lined up (in terms of different photographers, location concepts, casting, etc) and SI was re-launched to be as inventive and influential as it's been in the past - i'm sure those girls would love to be a part of it.

2001 Sports Illustrated
happycanadian2 replied to phenobarbie's topic in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit
this was the last GREAT issue, imo. maybe 2002 with Yamila Diaz on the cover. but this was right around where it all started going downhill. it's crazy how the issue has lost so much creativity and impact over the past decade. i think the height was in the 1980s, obviously, and then again in the 2nd half of the 1990s where it generated genuine superstars like Heidi, Tyra, Rebecca and Laetitia.
