The Wolf of Wall Street

I just got back from Wolf....and WOW. Leo...I mean. I thought it couldn't get better than Calvin Candie, I mean Jordan might be Leos best performance hands down. He was hilarious, and straight up crazy and out of control. I didnt think it could get better with his acting, but it did lol  :p  If he doesn't win something for this it is a travesty. The movie itself I really enjoyed too, it was laugh out loud funny. Funnier than I expected. And it didn't feel long either, and didn't really drag. The scenes felt quick, face paced, like Goodfellas. Though this is really in a whole other category that whats really been done before..Its so like it, yet not at all.

Its definetly one of the best leo-marty collabs, and marty films period! Also theater was packed full! The audiance I was with really loved it to (I think some were still drunk from christmas so they were a little rowdy  )

^bahaha yep it opened yesterday, I went at night after christmas dinner with some friends :p The theater was packed too!

Just saying though, DiCaprios best performance of his career. He is hands down HILARIOUS and out of his mind crazy..there are scenes in this movie that will be as iconic as the scenes in Goodfellas.

I just saw the movie, Here are my Initial thoughts:

- Leo's performance was memorable and it was nice to see him expand his repertoire, but I did not think it was his best and most powerful performance. It could be b/c of the factor I list right below this one. Either way I am rooting for Leo during award season just b/c I like him :D

- The movie was unnecessary long. I kept on looking at my watch every 15 minutes or so.  I understand it was a recount of events but I felt it could have been tighten up better---directing and writing could also be a contributing factor. The movie was kinda "slow" at first but about a third to half way in it started to pick up.

- I enjoy seeing the many faces Leo made and of course his nice ass (Y)

- Matthew McConaughey, for the short amount of screen time he had his performance was memorable

- Margot Robbie was great at playing a seductive bitchy MILF

- Most of the supporting cast did pretty well.

- Loved the ending. Very smart & witty.

- Interesting soundtrack. I like!

-  A grown-up comedic version of The Basketball Diaries ??? :p

- House of Lies with a white dude as the main character???

- Overall, I give it 7/10

Wolf of Wall Street Breaks F-Word

Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” is all about excess. From orgies on a plane to cocaine and cash (or “fun coupons” as Leonardo DiCaprio’s character calls them), the financial drama thrives in taking it up a notch. So it should be no surprise that Paramount’s R-rated film sets the all-time record for the use of the f-word.

According to Wikipedia, the word “fuck” is used 506 times over “The Wolf of Wall Street’s” 180-minute running time. Previously, the record for a non-documentary was Spike Lee’s 1999 film “Summer of Sam” with 435 instances. “Wolf of Wall Street” isn’t the first time Scorsese, 71, has dabbled in the profane. The Oscar-winning director has two other projects in the f-word top 20, including “Casino” (422) and “Goodfellas” (300).

Interesting write-up Pinky.

I'd agree that the movie was probably 30 minutes too long, though for me it only started to really drag in the third act. The first two hours went by rather quickly.

I thought it was Leo's best performance to date, just because he finally took some risks and went outside of his comfort zone. I cant' see him agreeing to the candle scene five years ago. He also displayed some comic talent that I wasn't aware he possessed.

I agree that the supporting cast was pretty brilliant. I especially liked Rob Reiner as his dad, Jonah Hill as his sociopath of an associate and Jon Bernthal as the drug dealer. Bernthal especially was a surprise because I find him incredibly annoying on TWD. McConaughey stole the movie with his ten minute (if that much) cameo. And I agree on Margot Robbie, she was pretty great and held her own opposite a guy who has been in the business for about three decades longer than she has (Leo is a child star, Margot only started acting for real at the age of 18). The fact that she was scorching hot didn't exactly hurt. The role reminded me a bit of ScarJo's in "Don Jon" (bitchy girls with a strong Jersey/Brooklyn accent) but ScarJo didn't leave half the impression on me that Margot did.

And I agree about the music, it was surprising but fun to see a Scorsese movie with the likes of the Foo Fighters and Plastic Bertrand () on the soundtrack.

^ I think being scorching hot will get someone's foot in the door but it is their talent that will get the other foot in. There are many women hotter than Margot, but blocks of bricks have more talent than they do :nicole: Margot definitely shined and I look forward to seeing her next project :)

She had a small part in "About Time". It's a cute little movie, if you don't mind a bit of sappiness.
