Piero Gemelli was born in 1952 in Rome, where he graduated in architecture.

In 1983 he moved to Milan and began to work with the leading fashion magazines , especially Edizioni Condé Nast, publishing for Vogue Italia and other magazines of the group, including foreign magazines.
In 1987 he opened his own studio in Milan and, working between USA and Europe, created campaigns and images for prestigious international brands.
He has been awarded prizes and recognitions, and numerous articles have been written on his work.
He has been invited to take part in a great many exhibitions, including, besides his first personal exhibition ‘Idea Progettata-fotografie 1983-1993’ (Milan, 1994),
‘20 anni di VogueItalia 1964-1984’ (Milan, 1985), the collective ‘À propos de la photographie italienne’ (Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne -1992), ‘Lo sguardo
Italiano - fotografie di moda dal 1951 a oggi’, (Rotonda Besana, Milan 2005)
and the solo exhibition ‘Dettagli di Moda’ (Villa Filippini-Besana Brianza, October 2009), in the context of the Foto&Photo exhibition; other solo exhibition “W(H)O-MAN“ (MyOwnGallery, Milano, 2010). “Piero Gemelli Vintage Prints” ( Still Gallery, Milano, 2016) Today, in addition to his photography, Gemelli also works in artistic management and the planning of spaces, as well as design and furniture, and accompanies his work with his own artistic production of photographs, graphic art and sculpture. In 2009, in occasion of the Salone del Mobile exhibition, he presented for the first time a new design project of his own.
