It appears (I also skimmed the film's cam rip) that the movie treads softly on the concept and is pretty shallow. The civil war idea is very undeveloped in the film. This whole concept of US civil war was better tacked in the comic series DMZ (also a short-lived series). It has huge potential as we now know the key factors (ideological, regional, and cultural) dividing the country. An objective (non-political and historical) and highly informed writer could make something huge about it.
