Calderón: Sergio Ramos Is Staying

Ramón Calderón has insisted that Sergio Ramos is staying at Real Madrid and questioned why any player would want to leave the Bernabéu to go to Chelsea.

Los Merengues' president moved quickly to dismiss reports that his club could be tempted by rumours that the Blues were ready to make a mega bid for the highly-rated defender.

"There is no reason to worry. His future is with Real Madrid. Sergio Ramos is one of the pillars of our project here and he has his entire career at the club ahead of him," Caldéron told Onda Madrid radio station.

"He would only leave if he wanted to, but I have seen nothing to suggest that he does. He is very happy with us. When you are playing for Real Madrid, why would you want to go to another club?"

Looking ahead to the summer, the Madrid supremo assured that there would not be major changes and the only additions that would be made would be true professionals that would add something extra.

"This squad will not be damaged. a few drops of quality here and there need to be added, but we will not break up what we already have. We want to make the fans even more excited than they already are," he continued.

"We have obtained a strong unity and do not want to spoil that. There will be few new faces, but those that there are will be good and will be seen by everyone to be adding quality and competition.

"Their behaviour, attitude and family life are key elements. A person that is no t orderly off the pitch will not be considered."

Having clinched back-to-back league titles, Calderón has now told coach Bernd Schuster that he must reach the latter stages of the Champions League next season.

"That is the next plan and we must reach the semi finals at least," he continued, before reflecting on the German's first year in charge after replacing Fabio Capello last summer.

"There are always ups and downs, but we have won at some important grounds, like San Mamés, El Calderón, Camp Nou and Mestalla, as well as Villarreal, and that was not by luck," he stated.

"It was difficult for him because he inherited a team that had just won the league and winning it again was his obligation."

Ramos Quashes Chelsea Talk

Speaking at an event for the Fundación Apascovi, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos restated his desire to spend the rest of his playing career with the club...

The ex-Sevilla man is apparently under watch from Chelsea, who are interested in breaking the bank to bring him to London.

Speaking at the RACE golf course today as he prepared for a Pro-Am charity tournament next Wednesday, he said, "I'm just thinking of retiring at Real Madrid."

Such declarations have not stopped the tabloid rumours, though. The Daily Mirror states that Chelsea are to make a bid of around £20m (€25m), although this figure may be considered somewhat low for one of the most prized youngsters in a defensive position.

It's a particularly small sum in light of declarations from both Ramos and his club president, Ramón Calderón, about how the Spanish international is going nowhere.

However, there is one potential point of interest. Ramos has been on the verge of signing a new contract for some months now, yet he has not taken that final step of putting pen to paper. Chelsea's low bid will presumably, then, serve as a kind of litmus test to see if their interest is worth pursuing at all.

Still, the contractual situation notwithstanding, there seems to be no reason not to take both Ramos and Calderón at their respective words.

Sergio Ramos: Raúl Must Go To Euro 2008

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has told As that he's keen to see teammate Raúl join up with the Spanish national side at Euro 2008...

Raúl has enjoyed one of his best season in many a year, leading to renewed calls from some that he deserves a place in the Spanish national side.

Among these voices is his Real Madrid teammate, Sergio Ramos.

""As a friend, colleague and fan, I'd like him to come to Euro 2008," said the right-back.

"Luís [Aragonés, manager] should call the best and I believe that Raúl could be among them.

"Our captain is a footballing instituion, and he's still proving that. At his age, competing in the Euros is not a problem."

Special Time

Looking back to his side's recent Liga championship victory, the young defender stated that confidence was high after the 4-1 win over Barcelona.

"We're feeling great. Although we were already champions, the Clásico is always a special game," he said.

"For us it was paramount to put the finishing touch on what has been a great season.

"Did I feel sorry for Barcelona? Sorry - not really. But nobody likes to get involved with the problems of another team and I wish no harm on anyone."

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Ramos stated the blancos' aims for the next season. Of course, first of all he reflected on the failings of this one.

"The Champions League," he stated definitively. "Next season we'll look for our revenge and see if we can at least reach the final."

Hm the article only says that "it seems to be more than friendship" between Sergio and Nani but based on what? Am I missing something? There were no pics or anything? So it's not an official confirmation, it's still speculation.

Yes I prefer being in denial  ;)
