Raúl on Punto Radio

"Our opponents will respect us if we win the next nine points"

Raúl González was a guest on Punto Radio, where he talked about the day-to-days at the team and shared his belief that they still has options of winning the League. "We have to make an extra effort," he said. The captain also talked about the Spanish national team and about "great" players like Guti and Beckham.

THE LEAGUE

"After everything that happened in the summer things haven't gone as expected. People haven't enjoyed wathcing us play at the Bernabéu and they have protested several times. We've been somewhat downhearted because things didn't turn out as we thought they would. We were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich, but I think we were superior to them. Our mistakes in the last 30 minutes of the first leg at the Bernabéu and in the opening minutes in Munich were crucial in their victory."

"The team gave a very good image against Barcelona despite being in a complicated situation. We were aware of our improvement and we want our fans to know that. We now have to make an even greater effort. The next three games are crucial. Our opponents will respect us if we win the next nine points."

PRESENT AND FUTURE

"Everything here has great repercussions. We suffer a lot. It seems we have to make drastic changes all the time. There's always many rumours. Coaches come and go frequently. Changes must always take place, but they must be made with common sense. I don't know who came up with the supposed list of "casualties" that apparently have to be taken care of. We must now fight hard for our main goal because it will be complicated to achieve it. I only see myself on a Real Madrid list. I have three more years on my contract and I am very excited, more than ever actually, precisely because things aren't going too well."

"I don't see myself on a different team. This is my home. I've gone through good and bad times here. The current situation may force my departure, but that's up to the Club to decide. Nevertheless, the President and the Club in general have always told me they support me. The coach will also have to decide if I am to play or not. I know we can't live on the past. I play every game as if it was my first. My past games and the goals I have scored in my life until now are irrelevant; only the present counts."

"I will keep my next team as a surprise. I've already told Beckham to save me a spot next to his future home (laughs). Seriously, I think whatever I do after I leave the Club won't have anything to do with professional football, but I still want to be here another three years."

THE CAMP NOU SYSTEM

"People said we met with Capello and talked about making a change, but that's not true. Capello has his own ideas and we must all do as he says, but it's true that we all felt more comfortable at Camp Nou. We were happy. We all think that's the path to follow."

GUTI

"We gave away the match against Bayern because those clashes are decided by very small things and actions. Conceding a goal ten seconds after scoring is a normal mistake that a great team can't afford to make. When Guti left the pitch the game changed completely. He is very important for us. We all feel more confident when he's on the pitch."

BECKHAM

"Beckham has always given his all at Real Madrid. He's always tried to do his best. He is a great professional who has always been available for any of the Club's needs and that's why he had to be treated fairly, so, finally, common sense prevailed and things went back to normal after a few uneasy weeks. It's sad to see him injured. David deserves to leave with a bang, not through the back door."

GALÁCTICOS

"I don't even know when that era was supposed to have started. I think a player like Redondo could also be defined with that word which I don't even want to utter. That word made our opponents try harder to defeat us, mainly because everybody thought we didn't have our feet on the ground. But that wasn't true. We had our feet firmly on the ground and we knew we always had to make a great effort. That era damaged us considerably. We must now focus on reality and fight hard in order to make this a champion team again."

CRISTIANO RONALDO

"He is a great player that has truly showcased his quality this year. He even scores goals. He is very young and would be an excellent signing."

SPANISH NATIONAL TEAM / LUIS ARAGONÉS

"It's hard to know when you are in your best or your worst moment. I'm playing in positions that don't allow me to play my best. People know what I can do on a pitch because I have proved in countless matches. I want to do things well and enjoy everything positive that happens. I have no problems with Luis Aragonés."

Raul confident future is with Real Madrid

tribalfooball.com - March 16, 2007

Raul is confident his future is still with Real Madrid.

The club captain knows the current squad are set for major changes in the summer, but insists he expects to avoid the cull.

"With so many changes expected, I don't know who will stay and who will go," said Raul. "The only list I see myself on is the one for Real Madrid. I have three years left on my contract and I want to bring success here, especially now after such a tough season.

"I do not see myself leaving. This is my home.

"Circumstances can cause that I may leave, but that is for the club to decide; and the news that I have from the club and the president is that they count on my confidence.

"It will be the trainer that decides if I must play or not. I know clearly that it is not possible to live on your past. For each game, I approach it like it is my first."

Raul confident Madrid will land Man Utd's Ronaldo

tribalfooball.com - March 16, 2007

Real Madrid captain Raul is confident he will be calling Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo a teammate next season.

Real president Ramon Calderon is launching a new offensive to land the Portugal international, who is locked in talks with United about a new double-your-money contract.

Raul said: "Yes, it's possible. He's a great player, who above everything else scores goals and is in great form. He is young and would be a great signing."

Asked also about Real's push for AC Milan star Kaka, Raul added: "I would like to see it happen because he is a great player. But I've already talked too much about this. It's the sports department that must decide these things."
