Snow damages Schalke stadium

Heavy snowfall over the Christmas period has damaged the roof of the Arena AufSchalke.

The annual biathlon World Team Challenge, scheduled to be staged inside Schalke's stadium on Thursday, has had to be postponed due to safety issues after a 1,000 square metre hole appeared in the roof on Christmas Eve.

Schalke's first Bundesliga match of 2011 against Hamburg on January 15 should not be at risk, although the likelihood is the roof will have to remain open, irrespective of the weather conditions.

"The holes are not going to be closed in time," said Schalke's chairman Peter Peters on the club website.

"The safety of the spectators is the utmost priority."

With temperatures remaining below zero, repair work cannot commence until the remaining snow has melted, but Peters is confident the roof can at least be opened in time for the Hamburg fixture.

"I am optimistic that we will be able to start the second half of the season according to schedule," he said.

I am from Germany, and my English is very bad, but I try to say something to you.

I will be able to see Raul live in February 2011 against Freiburg in the Veltins Arena. The atmosphere in this Stadium is awesome, one of the best in the whole world. Every Game is sold out and it is not easy to get a ticket when you aren’t a member of the club, but I have the fortune. I saw him also in Hoffenheim in one of the worse games at the begin of the season. You can already see, that he can lead the team, he was on every part of the field and now his goals speaks for itself. This football team is a worker club from the “Ruhrgebiet” and Raul has known this from the first moment. He is a great Sportsman and at his interviews so cautious and has no prima donna behaviour. I am a Schalke Fan since 30 years ago. Raul is the icing on the cake for a female Schalke Fan.

In an Interview after the game against Köln, the reporter asks him, why he looks happy like a little boy when he or the team shoots a goal. He says this is because he is very happy in this great team. Every person of the club was friendly since the first day he stays in Germany and this is very important for him. He wants this change in his life, a new experience and everything has become as he wanted it to be. His family is happy too. The reporter asks him, although of the weather?

He says: “Yes, they love the snow!”, and laughs very shy. Wow!!!!

Lovely details indeed.

Raul is a worker with the soul of a prince. He'd never thought himself the special one, and always wants to give out the best of him. Sometimes he does well, sometimes not, but from Spain to Germany, this won't change.

Hope him & Schalke 04 good luck. Grateful for the love he's received from german people.

A Little episode from the training camp in Belek:

While the team was sitting together for dinner with their fans at the training camp in Belek, a belly dancer suddenly arrived and forced the fans to dance with her. Then some players have to show their skills and if there’s rhythm in their blood. Raul instead laughingly escaped far away to some fans and watched his team mates. Those were dancing and Raúl signed jerseys and shot photos with fans. Maybe he’s to shy to present himself in front of the whole team and his coach Magath.
