Ronaldo will try another comeback

MILAN, Italy (AP) -- AC Milan striker Ronaldo wants to attempt a comeback once his left knee recuperates from what some experts said would be a career-ending injury.

"For now it's still early to speak about decisions, but I'm preparing myself for the great challenge of returning to play," Ronaldo said Thursday in comments published on the team's Web site.

The three-time FIFA world player of the year ruptured a tendon in his left knee last month while playing in a Serie A match. He had a successful operation and immediately began physical therapy. Doctors say the earliest he could play again would be in about eight months.

The 31-year-old Brazilian is the leading scorer in World Cup history with 15 goals.

Ronaldo has battled serious injuries throughout his career, including a right knee injury when playing for crosstown rival Inter Milan eight years ago. He missed the following season, but came back strongly at the 2002 World Cup, guiding Brazil to its fifth title with eight goals, including both in the final against Germany.

Ronaldo's contract with Milan expires at the end of June.

Ronaldo Won't Get Back To His Best - Pelé

Brazilian legend Pelé said he doesn't think Ronaldo will be able to be the player he once was again.

It isn't known yet whether AC Milan striker and two-time Golden Ball winner Ronaldo will decide to come back to playing football, but what seems certain is that we will never see the 'Fenomeno' we knew in his golden period.

Fellow Brazilian legend Pelé, who was present at a ceremony as ambassador of the Copa Libertadores, also believes it will be tough to see the old Ronaldo again.

"I don't think Ronaldo will be able to be the player he once was," he said. "Medicine has made huge progress, but he's also a few years older now. I would be very happy if he would be able to come back at 100%, but I'm afraid it won't go that way."

Ronaldo suffered the second major knee injury of his career in the league match between Milan and Livorno recently. The first one came in 2000 while he was at Inter, keeping him off the pitch for about a year and a half.

Ronaldo: Whatever Pele Says, The Opposite Comes True

Crocked Milan star Ronaldo has hit back at claims from Pele that he will never play football again, and says his comments are a blessing because whatever ‘The King’ says, the opposite always comes true.

Ronaldo is set to be out of action for at least nine months after rupturing the tendon in his knee.

In an interview last week, Brazil legend Pele stated that he believed Ronaldo would never return from his injury.

"I don't think Ronaldo will be able to be the player he once was," Pele said.

"Medicine has made huge progress, but he's also a few years older now. I would be very happy if he would be able to come back at 100%, but I'm afraid it won't go that way."

Ronaldo has now hit back at the 1970 World Cup hero.

"He said that I will not come back to play? I am happy that he said this,” Ronaldo told Radio Globo.

“It is well known that whatever Pele forecasts, the exact opposite comes true.

“However I don’t want to make too much of this. Pele is a legend and finds himself in difficult situations, having to answer questions of all kinds.”

This is not the first time that Pele has been slammed for his supposed lack of understanding of the game.

Former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, having been criticised by Pele in the build up to the 2002 World Cup, later hit out at the former Santos man when he returned from Korea and Japan with the trophy.

"I believe that Pele knows nothing about football,” Scolari famously said.

“He has done nothing as a coach and all his analysis always turn out to be wrong.

“If you want to win a title, you have to listen to Pele and then do the opposite."

Zidane Tips Ronaldo For Triumphant Return

Former Real Madrid master Zinedine Zidane has tipped ex-teammate Ronaldo for a triumphant return from his recent injury woes...

'Zizou' moved quickly to contradict Pele, with the Brazilian legend having previously stated that due to Ronaldo's age he will never again hit peak form.

But the former French international remarked, "Even though Pele said no, I must say yes.

"Ronaldo showed back in 2002 that he can overcome difficult situations.

"That's why he is 'The Phenomenon.'"

The two played together for four seasons at Real Madrid, with Zidane's contribution to the side ending in 2006. Ronaldo didn't last much longer, moving to AC Milan in early 2007.

The pair have each twice won the FIFA World Player of the Year award, an achievement shared only between the pair of them.

RONALDO: "I'm happy"

MILAN - Ronaldo has found back his smile again. On Thursday the 'fenomeno' started walking without his crutches again for the first time since his knee operation on 13 February. After 41 days of rest and physiotherapy the Brazilian striker of Milan says he is satisfied with his progress: "I'm really happy with how things are going and the fact I don't feel pain anymore." His physiotherapist Bruno Mazziotti has said that the player is almost able to move his left knee completely and he's already able to move his articulation by 70 degrees without feeling pain: "By working slowly but surely we are obtaining better results than expected."

Ronaldo's recovery ahead of schedule

Ronaldo's recovery from his horrific injury is ahead of schedule, and he is already walking without the aid of crutches.

Many people believed that the career of "El Fenomeno" was over when he severed a tendon in his knee, playing against Livorno on Feb. 13.

However, the 31-year-old is recovering ahead of schedule from his subsequent operation, and his physiotherapy is going so well that he is already walking without crutches.

"I am really happy with how things are going and because I don't feel any pain now," Ronaldo told journalists.

Ronaldo's physiotherapist Bruno Mazziotti is also delighted with the progress that his patient is making.

"We are working slowly but surely to get the best results possible. Ronaldo is increasing in confidence and taking a more independent approach," Mazziotti revealed. "In the coming weeks we will start to work with weights."

Ronnie will meet Gerard Saillant, who oversaw his operation in Paris, on April 3, while the striker is also set to visit the Milan training ground next week.

Ronaldo Is Finished – Thompson

Former England international Phil Thompson has aimed a cheapshot remark at Ronaldo, saying that the crocked Milan star is “finished”.

The 31-year-old Ronaldo ruptured a tendon in his knee last month against Livorno, and having had an operation, he will be out of action for at least nine months.

A number of people, including Pele, believe that Ronaldo will never return to the player he once was.

This view has been seconded by former England international Phil Thompson.

The ex-Liverpool defender was talking on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday show about England’s 1-0 defeat to France on Wednesday night.

After the game Fabio Capello reportedly referred to David Beckham as England’s Cristiano Ronaldo, a remark which drew the following response from Thompson.

“Do you think he meant the other Ronaldo? The one that is finished,” sniped the Liverpudlian.

Ronaldo: I Want To Play Football Again

Crocked Milan star Ronaldo has expressed his determination to play football again, and he says he also want to return in order to pay back a debt to the Rossoneri.

Many people believed that the career of El Fenomeno was over when he ruptured a tendon in his knee, playing against Livorno on February 13.

However last week it was revealed that the 31-year-old was recovering ahead of schedule from his subsequent operation, and that his physiotherapy was going so well that he was already walking without crutches.

Ronaldo has now come out and again stated just how desperate he is to return to the sport that he loves.

"Yes, I intend to play again because football is in my heart, it's a passion and I will do everything possible to return to the field,” he said emotionally.

"I do not know how things will go, but my desire is to return to play for Milan.

"The club, my companions, the doctors, all want me to do well.

"But we will have to see if I am still capable of being a player of Milan, I have to repay this debt to the club."

Ronaldo is expected to visit Milan’s training ground this week to see his club team-mates.
