April 25, 201312 yr Author Shelby Benson @ LA : “I want to surprise people”1) How and when did you started modeling?- I first signed with L.A. Models when I was only eleven, I had been interested in pursuing an acting or modeling career already when my mom heard about ProScout doing an event in Los Angeles. They were interested, and we took a long shot by driving there to see if anything would come of it, and I received seventeen callbacks from various agencies. I had more callbacks than the other nine hundred people at the session and it was a huge surprise, I just sat there in shock while they tried to talk to me. I had my hopes up that just one or two would give me a chance!2) How would you describe yourself?- I like to plan things, and I dream ahead a lot. Where to go, what to do, who to meet. I’m always making lists! I think it helps me find my center, just realizing there are so many opportunities. I also try to stay positive, I have dark humor but I’m a closet optimist.3) What are in your opinion the best things in the modeling world?- I know it’s what everyone says, but the two best things really ARE traveling and the people. This industry is fantastic, we all congregate in magnificent places to celebrate each other’s craziness.4) Please tell us what the last job has left you have the greatest impression?- Probably walking for Teen Vogue the opening night of Fashion’s Night Out. It was my first runway show, and they told us to smile and be silly, so it was unexpected. After prepping we walked four blocks to the show in our towering heels and funky outfits with people following us, wondering what on earth was going on. 5) You did many fashion shows. Are you still nervous before the show starts? And how do you feel when you walk on the runway?- I’m always insanely nervous when backstage, I’ll just stand behind the curtain with my heart beating a mile a minute, but the instant I step on the runway… It all disappears. It’s one of the most wonderful feelings in the world, and it gets better every time. 6) Are there any models that inspire you?- All of the top models, I spend a lot of time researching! Girls in my agency specifically though. Katrina Hunter, Michela Maggioni, Elizabeth White, and Laurel Stovall are like older sisters to me. I look up to them in modeling, and they have amazing outlooks on life, respectively.7) What are your favorite sports, how much do you exercise and how do you manage your diet to stay in shape?- I love dance! I’ve danced for nine years, on and off. I’ve covered a little bit of everything, from ballet to belly dancing.I also run a lot. I have a tendency to do so barefoot and at night, to clear my head. For diet I eat healthy more for my mental health than physical. I don’t eat wheat, I had huge issues with my body until I removed it from my diet.8)Do you have any beauty secrets that you would like to share with us?- I’ve recently discovered that drinking lemon juice works wonders for your complexion, and always lots of water.9) What are your goals in modeling?- I want to surprise people. Go from being a forgettable face to surprising everyone with the capacity to be more. We all set “supermodel” as our goal, but I’ll take it one step at a time with high hopes and reckless abandon.Tell us a little more about your hobbies. What are you doing when you’re not working?- Playing piano (or video games, which I am proud to say I’ve invested a bit too much time in), wandering the internet, reading, adventuring with friends… There’s never enough time in the day for my hobbies.10) Where do you see yourself in 10 years?- With a few professions and countries under my belt, exploring some archaic city.13)What do you think of All About Models, please be specific:- I really enjoy All About Models for the opportunity to interact and share with others, you get to know every model on a personal and professional level.
