April 11, 201312 yr Douglas Booth: The British actor is learning the ins and outs of being too intriguing By Adam Rathe OUT Magazine 2.16.2012 Douglas Booth learned the hard way that 140-character musings can quickly get out of hand. While he might not be famous in the U.S. for his tweets to become controversial, at home in London, the 19-year-old actor doesn’t have that luxury, so he recently cancelled his Twitter account. “If I put anything in the public space, then the tabloids are usually all over that; they feel like they have a certain right to tear me apart,” Booth says over a glass of orange juice in the lobby of a Los Angeles hotel. “But if I don’t give them anything, then they have no right to talk about my private life.” It’s no wonder that Booth’s personal life is of interest, though. The young actor has already taken on a number of challenging roles, including Boy George, makeup and all, in the 2010 TV movie Worried About the Boy, and Christopher Isherwood’s lover, Heinz Neddermeyer, in last year’s Christopher and His Kind. The time when that sort of fame is limited to the U.K. is about to end. This spring, Booth’s photo should end up taped to plenty of high-school lockers thanks to his turn as Miley Cyrus’s bad-boy love interest in the forthcoming LOL, an American adaptation of a French film about a teenage girl’s rebellion. A brainier set will get to know him thanks to the BBC’s latest costume drama miniseries, Great Expectations, which has been a runaway hit in the U.K. and will land stateside in April on PBS. If that’s not enough, Booth is teaming up with Downton Abbey mastermind Julian Fellowes -- who gave Booth his first professional role in 2009’s From Time to Time -- for Romeo and Juliet, a Carlo Carlei–directed visit to Verona. All of this work leaves the London native with little time to worry about gossip, like the rumors, fueled by -- what else -- Twitter, that he’s seeing Great Expectations costar Vanessa Kirby. “I have things going on in different countries,” he says. “You know, things come out here, then over there. Romeo and Juliet is getting buzz on both sides of the pond, but it doesn’t really affect me. I don’t have time to think about who’s talking about what. I just want to do a decent job and then move on.” Next, he’ll be moving on to Life at These Speeds, a Sam Rockwell–produced version of the Jeremy Jackson novel about a high school track star who sublimates his grief from a friend’s tragic death with running. True to form, Booth says he’s eager to do the best work he can. “It’s not one of those things where you can fuck it up,” he says of the characters he plays. “You either have to do it, and give it 100%, or just not do it at all.”
April 12, 201312 yr Douglas Booth: From Burberry Model to Dickens Star The Telegraph By John Paul Ford-Rojas December 29, 2011 Booth appeared alongside Dame Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall, and Dominic West in 2009 period film drama From Time to Time, written and directed by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. Last year he played the young Boy George in the BBC2’s Worried About the Boy and he will also be familiar to some viewers of a drama this year, Christopher and His Kind. Booth featured as the German lover of author Christopher Isherwood. The actor has also featured in campaigns for fashion label Burberry. Booth’s father works for Citigroup and his half-Spanish, half-Dutch mother and older sister are both artists. He grew up in Blackheath, south London, and Sevenoaks, Kent, and has spoken about how he took up drama after struggling with dyslexia and deciding his future would not take an academic path. Booth told the Scotsman earlier this month: “Acting is where I felt most comfortable and how I wanted to express myself. I was lucky enough to get a very good agent at the age of 15, and got my first film when I was 16, so it’s been rolling on since then.” He has recently travelled to America and France for his role in a new film LOL: Laughing Out Loud, alongside US teen star Miley Cyrus. Next year Booth is due to appear in a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, with a screenplay written by Julian Fellowes.

July 20, 201311 yr Meet Douglas Booth, Cinema’s ‘Offensively Attractive’ New Romeo By Maureen O'Connor 6.4.2013 http://nymag.com "External beauty is a bizarre thing to me," says Douglas Booth, a man whose external beauty is so great that co-star Emma Watson once described him as "offensively attractive." In a few hours he'll be in a Tom Ford tux at the CFDAs, where he will present the Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent. But for now, the 20-year-old Londoner is in a sweatshirt, sprawled across an armchair in his suite at New York's Peninsula Hotel. "I've met some of the most beautiful women in the world, and I can tell you lots of them are the most unattractive people I've ever met." Booth stars in an upcoming Romeo and Juliet destined to make teen hearts pound. Sixteen-year-old Hailee Steinfeld plays Juliet; Gossip Girl bad boy Ed Westwick plays Tybalt. The film comes out in Great Britain in July. In the next year, Booth will appear in four feature films from the likes of Darren Aronofsky and the Wachowskis; he'll share screen time with the likes of Watson, Mila Kunis, Russell Crowe, and Channing Tatum. Teen girls are already dedicating dreamy art to him on Tumblr. "Do I do any grooming for this event? No, I'm fine. Very low-maintenance," he says of his event preparations. As his assistant begins to chuckle, he adds, "Well, I think I'm low-maintenance." Produced by Julian Fellowes, the new Romeo and Juliet has been compared to Zeffirelli's classic version — both for its Italian director and sets, and for the youth of its stars. When Hailee Steinfeld was cast in 2011 at age 14, the press — including the hosts of The View —fretted at a script that required nudity. Director Carlo Carlei later clarified that the script had initially been written "with a 20-year-old actress in mind" and had to be altered to eliminate Juliet's nudity. Booth dismissed the controversy as "the press wanting to write rubbish," bristling at questions about the "beautiful and tasteful" scene. "We're not immature, puerile kids." Technical child Hailee Steinfeld is "so with it and grounded" that filming romantic scenes was "not difficult." "We know what characters we're playing; we're professionals. I'm not sitting here feeling like I've snogged Emma Watson. I haven't!" As an up-and-coming actor, Booth modeled alongside Watson in a fall 2009 Burberry campaign. The duo reunites in Aronofsky's Biblical Noah, in which they play husband and wife. Asked about Watson's "offensively attractive" comment, Booth notes that Noah is a poor showcase for his looks: "I had hair down to here and a big old beard. It feels great and refreshing to just not care." But back to our history of kissing Booth. Shortly after the Burberry campaign, he starred as Boy George in BBC biopic Worried About the Boy. "I don't feel like I've snogged Richard Madden, who played Lord Stark in Game of Thrones," Booth continues. "In the Boy George movie, I had to kiss him." Presumably he does not feel like he snogged Miley Cyrus, either, despite playing her love interest in his first American-made movie,LOL. Co-starring Demi Moore, the teen movie flew so far under the radar that Booth never learned how to pronounce its name. "El oh el? Lull?" he guesses. Apparently "it never came up before." As for his real-life girlfriend, all Booth will say about her is that she "has great energy." Is she an actress? "Maybe." Would he like to share her name? "Not really." A few minutes later, Booth's publicist arrives to shoo me out of the room. The CFDAs approach, and her client has a tuxedo to put on.
July 30, 201311 yr Douglas Booth Sympathises With Costume Designers 7.29.2013 Douglas Booth has described the elaborate and intricate wardrobe demands from the set of Romeo and Juliet. The British actor stars as Romeo toHailee Steinfeld's Juliet in the new adaptation of William Shakespeare's play. Douglas described his costumes and shared just how complicated and intricate his wardrobe was on set. "Yeah, a lot of work went into them," he told GQ. "We had Milena Canonero, who's a three-time Academy Award-winning costume designer, she oversaw the whole look of the piece and Carlo Poggioli, her sort of protégé, designed the actual costumes and it was, yeah, a huge amount of work. I swear, I split my pants a million times down the crotch when I was fencing. The poor costume girls had to spend many an hour, fixing up my crotch." Douglas has landed campaigns modelling for the likes of Burberry as a result of his chiselled good looks. He is known by British audiences for playing Boy George in the TV mini-series Worried About the Boy. Douglas described what it was like to play the recognisable singer of Culture Club. "Yeah, exactly [this was another iconic male to play]. I don't make it easy for myself. I mean, Boy George, he was really the pinnacle of that challenge because I had to transform myself physically," Douglas finished. "That was not only playing somebody that everyone already knows, but also that everyone knows exactly what he looks like and how he acted. Lots of his life is documented. That was an extra challenge." http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk
July 31, 201311 yr What a Romeo! Douglas Booth gets hearts aflutter as he models in a countryside fashion shoot ahead of playing the Shakespearean role in his new film Rising star Douglas Booth is certain to catapult to heartthrob status as he stars as Romeo in the forthcoming adaptation of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy. The 21-year-old actor showed off his cherubic good looks as he posed for a countryside photoshoot for GQ magazine. The star, who has featured in Burberry campaigns alongside Emma Watson, modelled in a series of outdoor shoots. He looked dashing in a black and white checked lumberjack shirt, black cargo trousers, a brown trilby hat and tan-coloured walking boots, carrying a khaki satchel filled with wood. He also wears a smart grey wool blazer, beige cargo trousers and wellington boots as he wades through a pond. The actor took part in a Q&A session with GQ about playing Romeo opposite 16-year-old American actress Hailee Steinfield. He reveals that he ‘fell in love’ with the part after not having particularly enjoyed the Shakespeare play at school. He said: ‘When you're forced to watch something in school, you never really enjoy it, you sort of rebel against it in a certain way. Actually coming to this just in my own time, it was actually so easy to fall in love with. You just realize how incredible this writing is and what a beautiful story it is.’ He also said that he identifies with the character himself. He said: ‘Being blinded by young love. I remember the feeling, when I was younger and I first fell in love—you don't see the world the same way that other people see it. You don't see the same boundaries.’ The film’s UK release is reported to have been postponed due to tension between Douglas and Christian Cooke, who takes the role of Romeo’s friend Mercutio, around Douglas’s girlfriend. Douglas is currently dating Christian’s ex, actress Vanessa Kirby, who he met while the pair were filming the BBC’s adaptation of Great Expectations. Romeo and Juliet is set to be released in US cinemas in October while a UK release date is yet to be confirmed. http://www.dailymail.co.uk
