Nineteen year old Russian newcomer Anna Martynova had model pundits hedging their bets on the mysterious blonde beauty who enthralled all during her appearances for Jil Sander and Miu Miu at the Fall/Winter 2012 collections. Martynova's distinctive crescent shaped eyes and pronounced down-turned mouth stood out amongst a sea of homogenous faces. Martynova possesses an enigmatic quality which has casting directors and designers alike cast under her beguiling spell. Casting director Daniel Peddle is a fan having recently profiled Martynova as one of his standout newcomers for Last Magazine, in addition to featuring her in the line-ups for 3.1 Phillip Lim and Suno during the Fall/Winter 2013 season. With her lithe 180 cm couture ready frame and golden flaxen hair, Martynova has wasted little time in scoring plum campaign spots for Christian Dior and Herve L. Leroux. While editorial appearances for Russh magazine, Crash, and Yo Donna Spain hint at the promising career ahead for this potential model as muse. In between castings for the Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2013 collections, Martynova took a breather to chat exclusively with IMA about her inspirations in fashion and life, and the importance of living in the present.

Inoubliable Model Army (IMA): Hi Anna, thank you for chatting with IMA. You're a relative newcomer to modelling having debuted at the Fall/Winter 2012 shows as an exclusive for Jil Sander in Milan before moving on to walk for Miu Miu, Andrew Gn, Leonard and Carven in Paris. Were you surprised by the industry's positive response and are you looking forward to the Spring/Summer 2014 season in September?

AM: When I first started modelling, I didn't know anything about the fashion industry up until the moment I did the Jil Sander exclusive. At the time I was simply glad that it happened to me but then I began to have a few questions about which shows I would like to be doing. I realised though that it was also important for me to stay calm and to enjoy the present.

IMA: Would you mind sharing a bit of your backstory?

AM: I am from Togliatty, Russia. I'm 19 years old and am constantly travelling at the moment so do not really have a home base. When I was 16, I decided to give modelling a try so I searched the internet for agencies and was eventually signed by my mother agency Grace Models!

IMA: Has it been difficult adjusting from life away from home, and what do your family and friends think of your career as a globe-trotting model?

AM: It's not so difficult, I think it all depends on how you perceive it.

IMA: You’re part of a new group of promising models to emerge from Russia including Sasha Luss, Nastya Kusakina, and Katya Riabinkina. Is modeling something that you had always aspired to and what advice would you offer to other young girls in Russia who are considering a career in modelling?

AM: My advice would be to just try it (modelling). If it doesn't work out, don't waste your time or else push yourself to go further!"

IMA: What are your hopes and dreams for the future and do you have a Plan B to fall back on in case modeling falls through?

AM: I have Plans B, C, D, E... and more, but that's a secret!

IMA: Casting director Daniel Peddle highlighted you as a face to watch in the Fall/Winter 2012 issue of Last Magazine, and cast you in the 3.1 Phillip Lim F/W 2013 show. Do you find the casting process during Fashion Week daunting, and what do you feel is most important when it comes to impressing casting directors and designers?

AM: I appreciate Daniel Peddle's taste in faces and also in art. I follow him on Instagram! So it's always a pleasure to be cast by him.

IMA: Models are more and more becoming arbiters of style. Has your fashion sense changed much as a result of your exposure to the industry and how would you describe your individual style?

AM: I like to mix different things from my wardrobe, it all depends on my feelings and mood. I'm inspired by the forms of minimalism and modern design, but ideas for colours generally come from galleries and exhibitions.

IMA: During the recent Fall/Winter 2013 shows you appeared in 29 shows including Oscar de la Renta, Helmut Lang, Preen, and Antonio Marras. Do you enjoy runway modeling and what thoughts go through your head as you are walking down the runway with all eyes on you?

AM: On the runway my emotions depend on the how I feel wearing the clothes and of course, the shoes!

IMA: Congratulations on landing the Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2013 campaign lensed by Willy Vanderperre! How would you describe the experience of shooting with Willy and fellow models Nicole Pollard, Daria Strokus, and Marie Piovesan on such a prestigious campaign?

AM: I've worked with Willy Vanderperre on two occasions. The most memorable thing that I've noticed is Willy's hands on approach to taking pictures. He works hard on posture and the movement of the models, that's why his pictures have a sensual almost touchable quality. Also he is a really nice guy, just like his entire Belgium dream team!

IMA: The life of a models involves a lot of travelling, time spent alone in hotels away from home. Do you have a close support network of friends in the industry and who are you closest model buddies?

AM: The people I mostly hangout with tend to be stylists and photographers. Model talk is not really something that is attractive to me. But having said that, I do have a few really good model friends.

IMA: You recently appeared in a gorgeous editorial for Russh magazine photographed by Elina Kechicheva. Do you enjoy the process of collaboration on editorial shoots?

AM: I enjoy doing both shows and editorials. I love my job at the moment!

IMA: Imagine you have an entire day free to do whatever you please. What would a perfect day in the life of Anna Martynova entail?

AM: I would like to have my own personal helicopter which would whisk me away to all of the best places in India. I enjoy exploring new cultures, nature, and the mentality of people. That makes me happy, also spicy food and taking polaroids ;-).

IMA: What makes you “Inoubliable” (Unforgettable)?

AM: I just try to be myself!
