Sunshiine
Quote The doodling queen, we chat to Estella Boersma about her illustrations in LOVE 16! Estella Boersma is the mastermind behind the scribbles all over the pages of LOVE 16. Here we chat to her about her love of doodling and grab LOVE 16 to find her favourite drawing inside it! Which is your favourite drawing you have done for this issue of LOVE? Definitely the skull portrait! It was so fun to try and draw something I had never really drawn before. How did you come up with the drawings? Really though, I just put my pencil on the paper and let the hand do its work. Drawing is an unguided process that won’t have the desired effect if you think too much about it. What is a drawing you keep coming back to? One of the portraits I drew, a girl with a Japanese ONI mask, the Japanese devil, grabs my attention over and over again. I really liked combining a part of traditional Japanese culture with my own work. What are you working towards with your drawings? Having my own animation studio! That would be a dream come true. If you had to be painted by any artist who would it be and why! Van Gogh, because he was influenced by Japan and its beautiful cherry blossom trees. If you could be a character from any painting who would it be? One of the girls from Roy Lichtenstein’s paintings! Drowning Girl, most likely, she is still charming while crying. Do any of the characters in your drawings have names? Not really, maybe they will have names in the future? What is your favourite piece of art? Spirited Away from Studio Ghibli. It was the first Japanese animated movie I ever watched and has been my favorite ever since. What cartoon do you most relate too? Bakuman, it’s about this boy who is trying to become the best manga artist in Japan. Definitely one of my goals as well. What is your favourite drawing/writing you have ever seen in a toilet ?! “Things I hate: Vandalism, Irony, Lists” Where else can we see your drawings? I am working on a website at the moment. Also, I am setting up an art account on instagram (@estellaboersma_art) and tumblr soon! Keep your eyes open, I’ll link it on my instagram! Can you draw a quick self portrait for us? 3...2...1… Will you draw again for us please?! Hell yes! source: thelovemagazine.co.uk
