The desert shaped his way of seeing light and color and as he taught himself photography, he was influenced by Man Ray, Andre Kertesz, Jacques-Andre Boiffard, Weegee and Helen Levitt, but mostly by Irving Penn. In 2009, Billy moved to New York and began focusing on daylight portraits - an exercise that allowed him to develop a unique ability to direct models, encouraging and allowing them to be truly expressive.
