Kara (Hangul: 카라, often stylized as KARA) is a girl group from South Korea. They are under Daesung Entertainment (DSP). Kara comes from "chara" (Greek: χαρά), which means "sweet melody" in Greek.[1]

After losing a member in 2008, Kara regrouped to become a 5-member girl group and eventually achieved its first #1 song with "Honey".

Park Gyuri (박규리)

* Date of birth: May 21, 1988 (1988-05-21) (age 20)

* Educational Background: Currently attending Dongduk Woman's University (Entertainment field. Theatrical Broadcasting Major)

* Work History: Acted on drama's as a child in Ladies of the Palace as Neum-keum and Oneuleun Cho-eun Nal as Sonagi, Podogi’s girlfriend. She also appeared as an extra in Lee Jun Ki's pomegranate juice Commercial.

Park Gyuri was a child actress and in another company before she left and auditioned for DSP. Park is the leader of Kara.

Han Seung Yeon (한승연)

* Date of birth: July 24, 1988 (1988-07-24) (age 20)

* Educational Background: Graduated from Tenafly High School (New Jersey); currently attending Kyung Hee University.

* Work History: Currently has a hosting job on the Starcraft TV show MSL Break and a Korean Talk Show where she has recently replaced So Nyeo Shi Dae's Tiffany; So Nyeon So Nyeo Gayo Baekso or SSGB with Kim Hye-sung. She was also in the Lucky Days PV with SS501, a boy band from her company.

Han became part of MBC's entertainment news show Section TV as a "pop columnist", debuting on November 21, 2008.[21] She also made a guest appearance on rapper Nassun's single "놀러와" ("Come to Play"), which was released in March 2009.

Jung Nicole (정니콜)

* Korean Name: Jung Youngjoo

* Birthdate: October 7, 1991 (1991-10-07) (age 17)

* Educational Background: Currently attending Laurel Springs School

* Work History:

o Featured on Sunha's first album Fahrenheit in the song "끈" (String).

o Featured segment host on KBS's Star Golden Bell

Nicole Jung auditioned for DSP Entertainment from the United States. She sang Black Eyed Peas "My Humps" for her audition. She wrote the rap lyrics for KARA's first album and also came up with the "Yo Jump" for Rock U in the choreography. Jung also joined Star Golden Bell, hosting a segment "Let's Think Alike (Season 2)" in which the guests have to guess a term or title from her clues; the challenge comes due to her comparative lack of skill and experience with the Korean language. She debuted on December 20, 2008 and continues to host the segment as of April 2009.

Jung was also featured on the song "Happy and" by singer Kang Kyoon-seong; as a gift, the singer gave Jung a DSLR camera.[22]

Koo Ha Ra (구하라)

* Birthdate: January 13, 1991 (1991-01-13) (age 18)

* Educational Background: Seoul Girls High School

One of the new members, Gu auditioned for many entertainment companies, including JYP Entertainment and SM Entertainment and eventually made it into DSP.

Kang Ji Young (강지영)

* Birthdate: January 18, 1994 (1994-01-18) (age 15)

* Educational Background: Gwanghui Junior High School

She sang Girls Generation's "Kissing You" for her KARA audition. She graduated middle school on February 14, 2009.

Kara Reveals Comeback Still Shot: "How's our continuing makeover?"

Counting down to their comeback, girl group Kara challenges with their exceptional transformation.

Before Kara's comeback on July 30th, they released their very first still cut on the 20th. We're seeing some actions before their album release on the 30th.

In the still cut, Kara has shed the cute and lively image they are known for, and give off a more mature lady-like feeling through their loose-fit style white tops, transforming into young ladies.

Kara will continue releasing photos. With the photo released on the 20th and other photos with a variety of concepts, fans will have a chance to discover a new Kara.

Currently their title song is in the final stages of editing, and a lot has been invested into their music video which has been filmed. With Kara's existing cute and lively feel, they will add a more powerful sound and image to their comeback plans.

Kara's management DSP said, "Following hit songs like and , the new album will have even more highly refined songs. In this powerful girl group summer, Kara will also have impressive activities," they said with confidence.

Meanwhile Kara's new album will be released on July 30th, and their comeback stage will start on the 31st with KBS 2TV's Music Bank.

Kara has transformed into ice-cold ladies donning white wigs as new photos of them were released on 21st July.

According to Kara’s agent, “KARA will be experiencing a huge change for their upcoming album in terms of music style as well as visually.

Kara’s hits like ‘Pretty Girl’ and ‘ Honey’ have always shown a cute concept, but ,now KARA plans to show a more matured and feminine beauty.

Meanwhile, on July 31, KARA will make their comeback on KBS 2TV ‘Music Bank’ , they shot the music video on the 18th-19th July and the teaser will be released to the public on the 24th of July.

KARA releasing a full album

Arising to a girl group that represents Korea after releasing 2 mini albums [Pretty Girl] and [Honey] in the first half of 2009, KARA are due to release their second full album, [Revolution].

The title of the new album [Revolution] captures the meaning of their changes, both musically and visually, and also, the changes could be noticed by the earlier still cuts which have been released before the album release.

The new full album [Revolution] contains 10 tracks, including the title track [Wanna] and 7 other new songs as well as additional bonus tracks. Title track [Wanna] was composed and produced by the same producers, Han Jaeho and Kim Seungsoo, of [Pretty Girl] and [Honey], and is considered to be worthy of success hat-trick in addition to their previous hits songs. This track is a pop-dance song, based on speedy yet strong beats, as well as provocative synth sound. It also contains impressive, wonderful chorus and complete, well thought-out song development with meanings, and further displays the members’ matured voice. [Mister] was also produced by the same combination of Han Jaeho and Kim Seungsoo, and is a Euro-pop dance song based on Electronica sound. Furthermore, this song was in the competition along [Wanna] to be the title track of the album due to its impressive funky groove, and its display of Kara’s confidence as their new charm.

Trendy medium-dance ballad song [Magic], which shows a new side of Kara, has its focus on the smooth and matured vocal of Kara. The song represents Kara’s innocent and clear image well, as it contains emotional lyrics and pretty melody, which also brings a deep emotion of yearning, along with the string instrumental from 20 members of a fine Orchestra, which also enhances the dramatic song’s completeness.

Other than those, the album contains [secretly Secretly] which is a combination of sad lyrics and bright melody; [AHA], which contains lovely lyrics and melody, yet is dynamic and has impressive song arrangement; [Let It Go], based on a stylish yet strong pop-style song, which is a song audience has never seen from Kara before; and as well as [Take a Bow], a cool-pop dance song with exciting beats. On top of that, the title song, [same Heart], for a rhythmic game ‘Imusician’ which captured attention of the game-players and other listeners, and the instrumentals for [Wanna] and [Magic] were added to the album.

KARA's comeback single - "Wanna" receives much attention

5 member girl group KARA released their comeback single Wanna, on the midnight of July 28, receiving much attention and love from the get-go.

Netizens who waited long for the release of the single got what they were looking for, as they predicted that Wanna will be the biggest hit of the summer. They were all praises for this new track, as most share the sentiment that Wanna will be a certified hit for KARA.

With their second album scheduled to be released on the 30th, they have already released still cuts of their new concept and style, and also a teaser for Wanna, which has been escalating the interest of many as to what the new album will bring. All eyes are on KARA as fans are eagerly waiting for their promotional activities for Wanna.

After hits like Pretty Girl and Honey, the producers of Wanna are confident that the girls can continue their winning streak. With fast, intense beats and techno sounds, the pop dance track is armed with a strong chorus and addictive melody. Although there has been an upgrade to a bit more mature KARA, we can still hear the cuteness in their voices, which have been their trademark. With KARA's cutie charms and a new sound, the new track is definitely something to look forward to.

Following their teaser released on the 24th, the music video and album will be released on the 29th and 30th respectively.

SBS Inkigayo Summer Special – Girl Group special

On SBS Inkigayo to be aired on 9th August, it will be a special episode of ‘Summer School Vacation special part II – Girl Group Special’.

Recently, the phenomenon of the inflood of girlgroups like So Nyeo Shi Dae, 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls, etc has raised the interests for this Girl Group Special episode.

For this special, there will be a joint stage amongst the girlsgroups and also a special VTR ‘Chat of the Young Girls’.

There will be 5 representative teams for this special episode and each team will send out their representative for this special VTR filming.

The 5 teams are So Nyeo Shi Dae, 2NE1, KARA, Brown Eyed Girls and 4Minute. And about 1-2 members from the team are selected for the VTR filming.
