What Miranda Kerr learnt from her grandmother

post-76139-0-17999600-1405173919_thumb.j

Miranda Kerr has graced international magazine covers, she has walked for high-profile runway shows, she was the first Australian to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel and, after 17 years in modelling, she is still at the top of her game. Kate Waterhouse caught up with Kerr to chat about her success, "escape plans" from the paparazzi, and those James Packer relationship rumours.

Forbes named you the second-highest-paid model in the world last year. What was that like?

[Laughs] I don’t really read that stuff. I work hard and I’m very grateful. I feel very blessed to have had the career that I’ve had. I never expected it to last this long and it has been a wonderful evolution. I’m really proud of the achievements, especially my [KORA Organics] skincare line and my book Empower Yourself. It’s heart-warming to see young women come up and tell me that I’ve inspired them to lead a healthier life and to believe in themselves. Those stories are very touching and make me feel like it’s all worthwhile.

How do you juggle motherhood and having such a successful career?

Planning and routines. My grandmother taught me the importance of routine, because she had four children and had many grandchildren. She said that it’s important for children to have a routine and structure [so] that they feel comfortable and safe. So I try to do that as much as I can. With [my son] Flynn, if I go away for a day or two, he’ll stay in his routine and have that structure and then if I go somewhere for over 10 days - like for instance when I was here in Australia - I bring him and then we have our routine here in Australia.

What’s your favourite part of coming home to Australia?

Seeing my family is my favourite part of coming home to Australia. I also really miss the Australian mentality; it’s a much more laidback lifestyle. And I miss the Australian accent, so it’s really refreshing to come home and hear people say, “Oh g'day mate.”

What’s the first thing you do when you come home?

I see my parents and my brother - give them a big hug - and then see my grandparents. I used to really love doing the Bondi-to-Bronte walk. I think it’s such a beautiful walk but it’s not as easy for me to do that. It wouldn’t be as peaceful and tranquil with all these paparazzi following!

You were recently rumoured to be dating James Packer.

We’ve been friend for years. [Rumours] happen all the time with me, it happens to Orlando [too]. We understand it. As long as we both know [the truth], then it doesn’t really matter what people think. People can speculate as much as they like.

Do you have a boyfriend?

No.

Are you looking for one?

No. I’m really happy and content to just be single at the moment and to be focusing on Flynn and my work. It keeps me very occupied. Of course going on a date here and there is fine if it fits into the schedule [laughs].

What do you look for in a man?

I honestly feel like a genuine heart is important. That’s what I find the most attractive.

What has been your biggest career highlight?

If I was really honest, working with Steven Meisel; the first Italian Vogue cover I did was something that I had always wanted to do; I guess breaking through that barrier. A lot of the time if you start off modelling as a commercial model, it’s very hard to go back to editorial.

Australian model Miranda Kerr is many mens' dream girl but judging by a special delivery today, it looks like you need to be prepared to spend a fortune on flowers to impress her. The massive bouquet featured approximately five dozen lilac and cream roses presented in a crystal vase and wrapped in clear cellophane with a purple ribbon around it. Along with the flowers, the delivery boy also carried in from his car a straw basket with what appears to be a teddy bear and a potted plant.
