May 19, 201212 yr Kerr-ching as Miranda and DJs talk turkey :morning: MIRANDA KERR has the sort of sweet, cherubic face that could melt the coldest of hearts, but don't be fooled, she is one tough business woman, as David Jones's boss Paul Zahra has no doubt discovered. In 2007 DJs signed Kerr as its top house model for what now seems like a bargain basement price of less than $1 million a year. Her contract is due to end in just a few months' time and PS hears Kerr is not keen to renew under the existing terms, which were so watertight the department store effectively ''owned'' her, applying strict limitations on what she could do professionally in Australia. Yet these days Kerr's overall earning power has far-outstripped anything she is making out of DJs, and reportedly she is at the helm of a modelling/beauty/celebrity endorsement empire worth more than $11 million, ranging from her own brand of skin creams to flogging soft drink in Japan. The retailer could not have predicted its star mascot would become a fully-fledged international celebrity in her own right, partying aboard Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's superyacht with Beyonce before marrying Hollywood royalty by tying the knot with Orlando Bloom. She is now mother to one of the most photographed babies on the planet: 16-month-old Flynn. Appearing on US chat shows such as Ellen, ordained a Victoria's Secret Angel and featured in the British tabloids on a daily basis, the world cannot seem to get enough of Kerr. However her success, while a lucky bonus for DJs, now presents the retailer with something of a dilemma: she is far more valuable now than she was in 2007. PS understands negotiations between the retailer and the model's agents have reached a critical phase, and the stakes are somewhat higher than they were five years ago. But as she twirled about with coquettish abandon on the red carpet on Tuesday night at the InStyle party, bathed in flashbulbs as a horde of drooling photographers yelled her name, one could mistakenly think such tense boardroom negotiations were the furthest thing from her mind. Not quite. Just as she tells photographers how to shoot her looks around her for the best possible light source before being filmed, Kerr holds her own when it comes to business. She has invested an estimated million dollars of her own money into establishing her range of beauty products, employing six members of her family, including her parents and brother, in the business. She is expected to feature in the Paris runway shows in September, where earlier this year she was earing $2000 for every step she took on the catwalk for big name fashion houses including Chanel and Balenciaga. Keeping her cards close to her chest when asked about what the future holds for her, Kerr, who turns 30 next year, told PS she simply ''takes every day as it comes''.Source: smh.com.au
