THR's Actress Roundtable!

Rachel on fighting for a role: “I fought for The Constant Gardener. I hounded the director. I called him a lot, and I wrote him a lot of letters. They were quite bold, basically telling him why I thought I was right to play the part. That’s very un-British. But I dropped my British-ness and at the end of the day [director Fernando Meirelles] said that tenacity was right for the character.”

Rachel Weisz bundles up while hailing a taxi on Friday (November 30) in New York City’s East Village.

Rachel recently chatted with Deadline about how her life has changed after winning an Oscar for her work in The Constant Gardner.

“Immediately afterward, I was offered jobs by interesting directors, including Alejandro Amenábar. Peter Jackson offered me a role. I didn’t have to meet people. They just offered me jobs, these big fancy directors. People believe in you more after you’ve won an Oscar, but it’s up to you what choices you make and how that goes,” Rachel shared.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Oz: The Great and Powerful hits theaters on March 8.

The mag talks about The Bourne Legacy, and really “gets the lowdown from writer/director Tony Gilroy and leading players, Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz, about rebooting this game-changing espionage franchise” in the big cover story.

Rachel Weisz graces the cover of C Magazine‘s Summer issue, on newsstands June 12.

Here’s what the 42-year-old actress had to share:

On The Bourne Legacy: “[Jason Bourne is] in the periphery of the story, but it’s about a new military program and I am thrown together with Jeremy Renner‘s character by circumstance, because, well, we need each other.”

On approaching new roles: “I want to always feel like it’s a stretch and that I’m not quite sure I can pull it off. And I think that is truly the right reaction … I used to get really affected by my work, but when you have a kid, you have to come home and be there mentally. When the director says ‘cut,’ it’s all make-believe, and strangely enough, that took me a little bit of time to work out.”

On living in NYC: “Everyone moans about the city changing and becoming gentrified, but I think the East Village still has a little edge and also has a community.”

BAFTA photo call for her film The Deep Blue Sea on Friday (November 25) in London, England.

The 41-year-old actress premiered the film back in September at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.

“She makes a kind of fool out of herself,” Rachel told Metro UK about her character in the film. “She’s so in love and so desperate,” Rachel added.

“I’ve started doing a bit of running, I’m going to get a little bit fitter,” Rachel said on an unrelated note. But she did divulge a secret treat she allows herself. “Dark chocolate, I allow myself that…I think chocolate is supposed to be good for you.
